From Distance to Access: Clean Water Changing Lives in Kamasengre

327 households are now connected to safe water, supported by 4 community kiosks, bringing water closer to home.

The impact is clear:
Waterborne diseases reduced to less than 20%
147 kitchen gardens established
Children attend school more consistently
Families have more time for productive activities

“Mornings are no longer rushed around fetching water… the children prepare for school on time,” shares one caregiver.

Clean water is now improving health, saving time, and strengthening livelihoods across the community.

🌍💧 : Stories of Change 💧🌍
Water is life. On Rusinga Island, families once struggled with unreliable access, walking long distances or relying on unsafe sources.
At Kamasengre Community Water Supply, powered by VFM in partnership with Maji Milele, things have changed:
- 330 households now enjoy water at home
- 4 communal points serve 450+ households
- Over 6,000 people have continuous, safe water
The difference is visible every day:
• Children spend more time in school instead of fetching water
• Women have more hours for income generating work
• Health outcomes are improving with safe, reliable access
On this International Water Day, we celebrate the resilience of communities and the power of sustainable water management. Together, we’re showing that reliable water services can thrive beyond donor grants, and transform lives for generations.
