𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲.**

From 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲.

Our 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗠𝗨 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀 had the incredible opportunity to perform at the 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘃𝘂𝗻𝗼 and what a moment it was.

Standing under those lights, surrounded by music, energy and a huge crowd, they stepped onto that stage and simply 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲.

They performed.
They expressed themselves.
They laughed.
They danced with everything they had.

And then there are those little moments you see in the photographs…

A face completely lost in the music.
Eyes closed.
Arms in the air.
A smile that says it all.

𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝘆. 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺. 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀.

For us at 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽, these are the moments that make us incredibly proud.

Because talent is everywhere. Dreams are everywhere. And sometimes all a young person needs is 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

Our Mathare FMU Stars showed what happens when they get that chance.

From Mathare, with talent, energy and a whole lot of heart.

𝗔 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗘. 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨’𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥.

Yesterday, Suzanne, Rogier, Luca and Dantè joined us for a Mathare Community Tour.

The center was a little quieter than usual, with part of our kids out at 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. But outside, Mathare was full of life.

There was a event happening throughout the community, with music, performances and activities, and our own kids proudly taking part.

For our visitors, it was a chance to experience Mathare as it really is: 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝘃𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Especially during the holiday period, it was wonderful to see activities bringing children and young people together.

That’s the beauty of a Mathare Community Tour. 𝗡𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗡𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Every tour is different. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆.

We are happy to support our friends and partners from 𝗠𝗮𝘃𝘂𝗻𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘃𝘂𝗻𝗼 𝗥𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗮 in their fundraising campaign to rebuild two community toilet buildings in Mathare.

Mavuno Mathare is part of our weekly activities at the 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲, where they spend time with our children and support our community.

Through this close partnership, we see the importance of projects that improve 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 in Mathare.

The rebuilding of these two community toilets will make a meaningful difference for many families in Mathare.

It starts long before the city is fully awake…

This week was one of those unforgettable days where adventure never stopped. Three community tours set off in the morning, followed by a large afternoon group. Every single guide from the Foundation Move Up team was out in the field, ready to share the Mathare they know and love.

Together we explored vibrant streets, discovered hidden corners, met inspiring entrepreneurs, and shared unforgettable moments with the people who make this community so special. Every turn revealed a new story, every conversation offered a different perspective, and every smile reminded us why these tours are so meaningful.

One of our groups even shared sweets with the children a simple gesture that filled the streets with laughter and joy.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿.

It’s an opportunity to step beyond the guidebooks, connect with people, hear their stories, and experience the real heartbeat of Nairobi through the eyes of those who live here every day.

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐞. ❤️

𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟐, 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲.

Today, we didn’t gather to focus on the loss. We came together to celebrate the beautiful person Joost was, the love he shared, and the legacy he left behind.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥.

They danced, they sang, shared poems, performed traditional dances, and together we lit candles while “One Love” by Bob Marley, Joost’s favoriet song filled our centre.

𝐉𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭’𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬.

Every single day, his presence is felt here. Looking over the children and reminding us why we continue to do what we do. Surrounded by candlelight, music, and smiling faces, we were reminded that he will always be part of Foundation Move Up.

After the memorial, we gathered on our patio, where we cooked together and shared a meal. We laughed, shared memories, and simply enjoyed being together before the children headed home to get ready for another school day.

𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐛𝐲𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧.

It was about celebrating a life that continues to inspire us every day through this community, through Foundation Move Up, and most of all, through the children.

Joost, thank you for believing in this community long before many others did. Thank you for believing in our children, in Foundation Move Up, and in all of us. Your love continues to live on in every smile, every dream, every opportunity, and every child who walks through our doors.

🎧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Every Saturday, our young people gather around the DJ decks, eager to learn, practice, and challenge themselves. What started as something completely new is slowly turning into a real passion.

𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐭, 𝐦𝐢𝐱 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐱, they are building confidence, discovering new skills, and having an incredible time along the way. It’s inspiring to watch their enthusiasm grow with every session.

A special thank you to 𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 for showing up week after week to invest in these young talents. Your dedication is opening doors, inspiring dreams, and proving that opportunities can change lives.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of taking these wonderful guests on a community tour through 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞. Together we explored the neighborhood, met inspiring local people, and visited amazing initiatives like 𝐌𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤.
