𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 ❤️

It may seem a little early to think about Christmas, but at Foundation Move Up we’re already starting to prepare for our Christmas celebration with the children in Mathare.

Every year, we try to make this day a little extra special. Good food, being together, laughter and simply enjoying a day where the children can feel celebrated. That’s what Christmas at Move Up is all about.

This year, we’re also hoping to do something for others in the community. If we receive enough donations, we would love to put together 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

𝗠𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 🌱

A day dedicated to our environment, our community and the next generation.

Our day included visits to 𝗬𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 and 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵, followed by lunch at our 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, where we enjoyed an inspiring hype session by 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 and wonderful performances by our talented children, including modern and traditional dance. 💚

We were happy to welcome visitors from 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 and other universities in Nairobi, and to work alongside 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 on this special day.

Not every day unfolds as planned, but every experience teaches us something and helps us grow stronger for the future.

Making ugali over charcoal is no easy job! These boys are putting in the effort, while the kids make sure the whole thing comes with plenty of commentary.

Yesterday, Isabelle and Pepeyn joined us for a new adventure in Mathare!

Stepping into the streets, taking in the atmosphere and discovering the everyday life of this vibrant community. There’s always something happening, someone to meet or a little detail you might otherwise miss.

No two Discover Mathare tours are ever the same. Every visit brings its own moments, surprises and stories. And that’s what makes it so special.

You never quite know what the afternoon will bring. You just come with an open mind, take it all in and let Mathare surprise you.

Under the theme “Growing Roots of Resilience,” we look forward to a special day of learning, sharing, creativity and community connection.

Together, we’ll explore how small, local actions can make a big difference for our environment and our future. 🌿 From urban farming and hydroponics to Black Soldier Fly farming and river rehabilitation, the day is all about growing knowledge, nurturing resilience and inspiring positive change.

Our children will also take centre stage with an afternoon of activities and performances, reminding us that a greener, more sustainable future starts with the next generation. 🌱💛

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗!!

When good people come together, great things can grow. ❤️

Yesterday evening, 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽 was proud to be represented by Winnie, Joshua and Salim at Connect for Good, organised by the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Kenya.

It was an inspiring and enjoyable evening, bringing together charities, family foundations and businesses from across Kenya to connect, share experiences and learn from one another.

We had the opportunity to discover the work of other organisations, hear their stories, exchange ideas and see the many different ways people are working to create opportunities and make a difference.

Every organisation has its own journey, its own challenges and its own dreams for the future. Yet, despite our differences, we share a common belief: working together, learning from one another and building meaningful connections can open doors to new possibilities.

At Move Up, we believe in the potential of young people and the power of people coming together to create lasting change. Evenings like this remind us that we are part of a wider community, full of passion, ideas and people who care.

A heartfelt thank you to the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Kenya for bringing everyone together and creating such a welcoming space for connection and collaboration.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀… 💚

Last week, our good friends 𝗝𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘇𝘆 brought Jos’ sister and her family along to 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 for a very different kind of Kenyan adventure.

They’re visiting Kenya on holiday, and Jos and Suzy thought: if you’re here, you should come and see what we’re doing at 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽!

So off they went for a 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 through Mathare.

Starting at our 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲, they got to see a little of what happens behind the scenes, meet some of the people we work with and then head out into the community.

And Mathare is… well, Mathare. 😄

Busy streets, tiny paths, people everywhere, children waving, little shops tucked into every possible corner and life happening at full speed around you.

There’s always something to see, someone to greet and probably a few moments where you think: “Okay… this is definitely not the Kenya I saw from the back of a safari vehicle!” 😂

But that’s exactly what makes these tours so special. It’s not about looking at a community from a distance. It’s about 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and getting a little closer to everyday life.

A big 𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗮 to Jos and Suzy for bringing the family along, and to the whole family for being so open, curious and adventurous. ❤️

𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀. 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻. 💻

Last week, two laptops arrived at Move Up, ready to become part of our IT classroom.

A huge thank you to Gonny and Richard for donating them, and a very special thank you to Joan and her family for bringing them all the way to Kenya.

For our students, access to a laptop means much more than simply having a computer. It gives them the chance to practise their IT skills, work on assignments, explore new things and build confidence with technology. Skills that can open doors later in life.

We’re very happy to add these two laptops to our classroom.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.

Our IT classes are growing, and having enough laptops means more students can get hands-on experience during their lessons.

So if you have a good, working laptop that you no longer use, please don’t forget about us. It could get a whole new life here at Move Up and, more importantly, help a young person learn skills for their future.

Two laptops have already made the journey to Kenya. 💙

So… 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗶. 🌴

We’ve been working behind the scenes here for quite a while, but after recently announcing that our 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 will be based here, it felt like it was finally time to start showing you a little bit of what’s been happening.

Last week was a good place to start.

We joined a 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻-𝘂𝗽 in the morning, followed by a 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Our Move Up footballers got stuck in, the sun was shining, and the atmosphere was exactly what you hope for when a bunch of people come together for a good day.

Then, somewhere between the football matches, things took a slightly unexpected turn.

There was a 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄. There was plenty of entertainment. And then there was a 𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗿.

Yes. A polar bear. 🐻‍❄️On a beach in Diani.

We’re still not quite sure how that happened, but it definitely added something to the day.

For us, days like this are about more than football or cleaning up a beach. They’re also about getting out there, 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, discovering what’s already happening in the community and getting to know the organisations and people who are making things happen around Diani.

And that’s one of the exciting parts of starting something new here.

So, consider this our 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝗽.

There will be more. Plenty more, actually.
