BECI participants are currently taking part in animal care and protection training at Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals -KSPCA through the Community Animal Compassion Project, implemented in partnership with and KSPCA.
In communities such as Mathare, stray dogs and cats are often overlooked, and many people have had limited opportunities to learn about animal welfare and responsible care. Through this initiative, KSPCA is helping to transform perceptions and strengthen community understanding of the important role animals play in healthy and safe environments.
The training is equipping participants with practical knowledge on animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, disease prevention, and humane treatment of animals. Beyond building skills, the program is fostering compassion, responsibility, and community leadership among participants.
The long-term impact of this work extends beyond individual learning. By empowering community members as advocates for animal welfare, the project contributes to safer neighborhoods, improved public health, reduced animal neglect, and stronger human-animal relationships. Participants are becoming agents of change who can influence attitudes and practices within their families and communities for years to come.
We are grateful to KSPCA and Nafasi Opportunity Society for investing in community-led solutions that promote both human well-being and animal welfare. Together, we are building a more compassionate, informed, and resilient community where people and animals can thrive

Happy World Environment Day! BECI CBO joined Shine A Light CBO, the Nairobi City County Government, community members, and valley bridge environmental club to celebrate World Environment Day through a tree-planting activity at Valley Bridge Primary School in Kiamaiko Ward, Mathare.
The day brought people together with one goal — to make our environment cleaner, greener, and healthier for everyone. We were happy to spend the day planting trees, learning, and taking practical action to care for our surroundings.
A special thank you to the environmental groups that supported the activity and to the amazing teachers at Valley Bridge Primary School for their warm welcome and commitment throughout the day.
Small actions can make a big difference, and every tree planted today is a step towards a greener future for Mathare.
Together, we can grow and protect the environment for generations to come.

Today, we are celebrating International Men's Day at kayole 2 Social Hall Embakasi, with the theme "Men's Health Champions." The event shed light on several important issues facing men today, particularly the need for more platforms advocating for the boy child.
Some of the Key Discussion Points.
- Toxic Masculinity in the Digital Era: We explored how societal expectations often pressure men, leading to harmful behaviors.

- Inequality and Inclusivity:We addressed the economic violence that disproportionately affects men, emphasizing the need for equitable opportunities.
- Nurturing Young Men: Just as we support young girls, our young boys also deserve nurturing and encouragement from an early age.

- Mental Health Responsibility:
We recognized that supporting men's mental health is a collective responsibility. It's crucial for everyone to get involved in this dialogue.

- Cultural Perspectives:we discussed how our culture has normalized the suffering of men, leading to a fear of sharing their struggles. We must encourage men to be vocal about their experiences and seek help.
Let's continue this conversation at household level and create an environment where men feel safe to express themselves and advocate for their well-being.

As we observe the 16 Days of Activism, we stand united with young girls and women, who are often the most vulnerable to gender-based violence (GBV). Our partnership with and has been instrumental in fostering ongoing dialogue about rights and empowerment.
Together, we envision a community where there are NO SURVIVORS, NO VICTIMS —only equality and zero tolerance for gender-based violence. .we are keeping this conversation ongoing.
