We conducted a workshop on the Validation of the Community Vulnerability Risk Assessment (CVRA) and Community Action Plans in Moyale and Sololo Sub-Counties; a total of 100 community members were engaged to strengthen collaboration between communities, government departments, and other stakeholders in addressing priority hazards.
The workshop provided an opportunity to share the CVRA process and findings, including community-identified risks and proposed interventions, while exploring opportunities for partnership, resource mobilization, and implementation of priority actions. The process is expected to strengthen crisis preparedness and response through improved risk monitoring and anticipatory action within and across cross-border communities.

In partnership with VSO successfully conducted a Community Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) across target communities in Moyale and Sololo sub-counties. The participatory assessment brought together women, men, youth, elders, persons with disabilities, community leaders, and local authorities to identify the key shocks and stresses affecting their livelihoods and resilience.
Using participatory tools, community members analyzed risks such as drought, water scarcity, conflict, disease outbreaks, floods, food insecurity, and environmental degradation while identifying existing capacities and solutions. The findings will inform Community Resilience Action Plans, guiding coordinated interventions by government, HODI, VSO, and other partners to strengthen resilience and promote sustainable livelihoods.

We conducted courtesy calls to key government stakeholders in Moyale and Sololo, engaging county and national government departments.
The purpose was to strengthen coordination and ensure the RECAP Project is implemented in a coordinated, inclusive, and context-responsive manner, with strong government collaboration at the sub-county and locational levels.

Our new project, Resilient Borders: Advancing Climate Adaptation, Peace, Livelihoods, and Preparedness in Cross-Border Communities of Ethiopia and Kenya (RECAP), was formally launched in Moyale, Kenya, yesterday. We were honoured with the presence of the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Solomon Riwe, and the County Commissioner, James Kamau.

Over the next three years, the project will work with communities in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia to strengthen climate adaptation, support sustainable livelihoods, enhance peace and resource governance, and improve crisis preparedness and anticipatory actions.

The project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), and implemented in partnership with VSO and Center for Development and Governance.

We are proud to share that our Mala Marii Project, implemented with funding from
ForumCiv Eastern & Southern Africa successfully concluded its three-year implementation in December 2025, strengthening community resilience in Butiye and Sololo wards of Marsabit.
Over the project period, approximately 430 community members were directly
reached through Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR), sustained
community dialogue and livelihood support.
4 communities developed and implemented comprehensive community action
plans, 22 community facilitators were equipped to lead inclusive dialogue and local
actions, and over 120 community members actively participated in monthly
meetings addressing climate risks, livelihoods and social cohesion.
Targeted livelihood support including livestock restocking, poultry support, and
distribution of more than 570 tree and fruit seedlings to 259 community members
contributed to improved nutrition, income, and environmental restoration, with
wider indirect benefits reaching thousands across the four communities.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our communities, consultants and other service
providers whose buy-in, leadership and commitment drove this work forward.
We thank our government officials at all levels for their collaboration,
responsiveness, and commitment to make the project successful.
We also thank our dedicated staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts in
challenging contexts, and our funder ForumCiv for their partnership and support
throughout the three years. Together, we have empowered communities to
become resilient in a changing environment.

We are pleased to share that with funding from The Christensen Fund , we supported the County Government last month to complete public participation in Moyale Sub County for the Natural Resource Management Policy, the Marsabit County Climate Change Act Amendment Bill, Water Policy, and the Marsabit County Water and Sanitation Amendment Bill.
Over 60 participants were able to provide their feedback on these documents.

We are excited to announce the successful wrap-up of the IPDHE project (Integrating peacebuilding, development and humanitarian efforts on the Kenya and Ethiopia cross border).

The project achieved its goal of reducing conflict, enhancing resilience and peaceful coexistence among communities on the Kenya-Ethiopia border. It directly impacted over 82,000 households in Kenya alone during 42 months of implementation.

We are grateful to the Austrian Development Agency for funding and supporting this project since 2022 and to our special partners VSO and Center for Development and Governance .

We are equally grateful to the national government and the County Government of Marsabit for their resolute support to this project. We thank our communities on the border and our volunteers without whom we could not implement this project. We also thank our other partner organisations who walked this journey with us.
