Today, CARITAS Marsabit facilitated an engaging session on the role of women leaders in fostering social cohesion and peaceful co-existence within the Diocese of Marsabit. The session aimed to empower women leaders to actively promote peace and dialogue in their communities and parishes, amplify the voices of Catholic women in peacebuilding processes, and encourage them to guide Small Christian Communities in strengthening unity and social harmony across the Diocese.
In addition, participants received training on agroecology, equipping them with practical knowledge to promote household kitchen farming. This initiative is intended to enhance resilience among women and their families in the face of climate-related challenges.

Today, Caritas Marsabit, together with partners under the Multi-Actor Platform (MAP) for Border-Based Bonding on Long-Term Development (BBOLD), held a productive meeting bringing together local Civil Society Organizations, County Government, and National Government representatives working along the Kenya–Ethiopia border.

The goal is clear: to build unified and sustainable strategies for peacebuilding and food security in border communities.

Key highlights from today:

✅ Review and signing of the BBOLD constitution

This week, Caritas Marsabit was honoured to host our partner Hoffnungszeichen | Sign of Hope for a monitoring visit across key project sites.

In Farakoren, the construction of an earthpan is improving access to water for the community.

In Bura, integrated interventions including borehole drilling, climate-smart agriculture for women, fodder production, and eco-friendly briquette making have enhanced livelihoods and created sustainable income opportunities.

These efforts are contributing to sustainable livelihoods and expanding income-generating opportunities for communities.

Today, Caritas Marsabit brought together young people from Kargi and Maikona parishes for a vibrant and engaging sporting activity an initiative inspired by the youths themselves.

In a region where diversity is rich, sports continue to prove their power as a unifying force. Through teamwork, shared goals, and friendly competition, these young people had the opportunity to connect across ethnic lines, build trust, and form meaningful friendships

High-Level Coordination Meeting with County Department of Health🏥

Caritas Marsabit held a high-level coordination meeting with the County Department of Health to review the progress and key milestones of the LOVE Project.

✅️The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the implementation of recommendations from the joint monitoring report conducted in collaboration with Opthalmic Service Unit and CBM Christoffel Blindenmission Schweiz ,with a strong focus on theatre preparedness and low vision services.

✅️Discussions also centered on strengthening partner coordination in eye health programming and tracking progress on the accessibility audit report to ensure more inclusive and accessible service delivery.

✅️Caritas Marsabit remains committed to working closely with stakeholders to improve health outcomes and promote inclusive eye care services across the county.

Advancing Collaborative Peace Efforts in Marsabit County 📍

Today, Chiefs from different locations across Marsabit County, together with members of the peace committee facilitated by Caritas Marsabit came together for a critical dialogue on key security concerns affecting communities.

The discussion focused on:
✅️Cattle rustling
✅️ Highway banditry
✅️ Inside theft

These challenges, which are common across Marsabit County, continue to impact livelihoods, safety, and community cohesion.

Participants engaged in open conversations around the root causes, emerging trends, and shared experiences, while also developing practical action plans and a way forward to address these issues collectively.

The Wezesha Vijana Program has successfully kicked off its 2nd cohort of TVET Mashinani! 🎉

A total of 35 vulnerable youth from Moyale and Korr have enrolled in hands-on vocational training aimed at building practical skills for employment and self-reliance.

👩🏽‍🍳 25 youth in Moyale are now training in Baking & Pastry
🔧 10 youth in Korr have joined Motorcycle Repair & Maintenance

The commencement of the second cohort marks a significant step in expanding access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at the community level, empowering youth with market-relevant skills and supporting local economic development.

The Wezesha Vijana TVET Program, funded by Safaricom Foundation and implemented by CRS in partnership with Caritas Marsabit, proudly marked the graduation of talented youth who have completed vocational training!
📍 Moyale came alive as trainees showcased the skills and products they developed, demonstrating readiness for self-employment, industrial attachments, and further career growth. Certificates were awarded in partnership with Nyeri National Polytechnic, ensuring recognized technical and vocational standards.
💼 To kickstart their journey, graduates received start-up tools and grants to launch their businesses, promoting sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
👏 Stakeholders, including county representatives and community leaders, applauded the program for equipping youth with market-relevant skills and fostering economic empowerment at the community level.

📍 Strengthening Peaceful Co-existence | Elle Dimtu

✅️Community representatives including herders from Forolle, Elle Dimtu, Elle Bor, Idido, and Gandille (along the Kenya–Ethiopia border) convened in Elle Dimtu for a community-led peace meeting aimed at strengthening peaceful co-existence.

✅️The dialogue, initiated by the local peace committee and supported through the continued peacebuilding efforts of Caritas Marsabit, focused on:
• Peaceful and equitable sharing of water and grazing resources
• Sustaining the existing harmony among neighbouring communities
• Strengthening dialogue as a pathway to lasting peace

✅️Community members expressed gratitude to Caritas Marsabit for its consistent support in promoting peace and social cohesion in the area.
