At the centre of global stakeholders, James is sharing grassroots experiences from Northern Kenya, connecting with partners, exchanging knowledge, and contributing pastoralist perspectives to global conversations on land restoration, drought resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.

REPAL is conducting a Capacity Building Forum in Nairobi under the project "Promoting Corporate Accountability, Responsible Business Conduct, and Environmental Justice," with support from KIOS Foundation

The forum brings together REPAL staff and Board Members to strengthen their knowledge and skills in Human Rights-Based Approaches (HRBA), Business and Human Rights, Corporate Accountability, Responsible Business Conduct, Environmental Justice, and Organizational Governance. This investment in institutional capacity will enhance our ability to effectively serve pastoral communities, promote environmental justice, and advocate for accountable and responsible business practices.

At REPAL, we believe that building a strong institution is key to delivering meaningful and sustainable impact for the vulnerable and marginalized communities we serve.

REPAL Participates in the National CSOs Learning and Capacity Strengthening Forum on Community Resilience

REPAL is honoured to participate in the National Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Learning and Capacity Strengthening Forum taking place in Naivasha on 28–29 July 2026. The forum, convened by the United Nations Development Programme UNDP Kenya under the Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance and Recovery Capacities Project, brings together civil society organizations, county governments, national institutions, and development partners committed to building resilient communities across Kenya.

The two-day forum provides an important platform for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange on Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) and climate adaptation. Discussions are centred on strengthening Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) systems and community feedback mechanisms, promoting inclusive and gender-responsive disaster risk management, and enhancing coordination between CSOs and county governments to integrate resilience programming into county development planning.

As an organization dedicated to improving the resilience and livelihoods of pastoralist communities, REPAL values this opportunity to share experiences, learn from fellow practitioners, and strengthen partnerships that advance sustainable, locally led climate resilience initiatives.
We remain committed to applying the knowledge gained through this forum to support vulnerable communities in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the impacts of climate change and disasters.

We thank UNDP Kenya and all partners for creating this valuable platform for collaboration and collective action towards a more resilient Kenya.

Empowering Communities Through Knowledge and Dialogue

Informed communities are better equipped to protect their rights and actively participate in decisions that shape their future.

REPAL convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue in Loiyangalani Cluster, bringing together representatives from local communities, civil society organizations (CSOs), and local organised groups to strengthen understanding of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), Business and Human Rights (BHR), and meaningful public participation in development processes.

The forum provided a platform for participants to discuss community rights, responsible business practices and environmental justice while exploring practical approaches to improving accountability and inclusive decision-making. REPAL also disseminated legal and policy guides on FPIC, Business and Human Rights, the National Land Policy,Land Rights for Pastoralist communities and the Community Land Registration Guidelines, empowering participants with practical knowledge to safeguard their land, natural resources, and livelihoods.

Through initiatives like these, REPAL remains committed to promoting corporate accountability, responsible business conduct, and informed citizen participation in sustainable development.

This activity was implemented under the Promoting Corporate Accountability, Responsible Business and Environmental Justice project through the Haki Ni Yetu Project, funded by KIOS that focuses on strengthening civil society in Kenya by promoting human rights, democratic governance, accountability, and meaningful citizen participation.
