Yesterday , the Youth Member of Parliament (JVP), Hon. Joshua Karisa, led a Youth Baraza in Mariakani , bringing together young people and key stakeholders to deliberate on youth opportunities.
The discussions focused on practical and sustainable solutions to these challenges. Key among them was the concept of “taka ni pesa”, which encourages youth to convert waste into income-generating opportunities. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of building partnerships and staying informed about available opportunities within local communities.
The meeting was attended by several leaders and stakeholders, including Hon. Joel Melody, Majority Leader of the Mombasa Youth Council; Lorraine Kasuli, Founder and CEO of Mariakani Impact Mtaani Initiative; representatives from the Mariakani Youth Empowerment Group; officials from Mariakani Municipality; and departmental heads from Social Services, Trade, Environment, and Inspectorate.
A representative from the Sub-County Youth Office highlighted key government programs such as the Uwezo Fund and the Nyota Project, which provide loans and grants aimed at supporting youth-led initiatives and entrepreneurship.
The Baraza concluded with a strong call for continued youth engagement, collaboration, and proactive participation in development initiatives.
