Our final session for Kapenguria cohort 2 discussed significant days especially with coming up. Why these days are particularly difficult and why. How these days affect emotions and routines, coping strategies and finding hope and meaning and honouring our babies.

Today was a gentle space to acknowledge these days and the emotions that came with it.

We also shared our gratitude for each other and for this community.

We appreciated those who represented in the giving back activity at Sunflower Children's Home.

We'll keep supporting others and advocating for quality care, compassionate bereavement care, and of preventable pregnancy, infant and child .

This melted our hearts! Speak of love showing up in quiet and powerful ways!
Our mums in the 2nd Kapenguria cohort decided during their brunch 3 days ago to give back to the community by spending
yesterday at Faith Homes - Sunflower Children's home.

They shared not just pads with 16 girls, but dignity, care and presence.
For many girls around the region, access to products is not guaranteed. What may seem small is actually life-changing and contributes to the girls staying in school and moving in confidence.
One of the mums, a SRH (Sexual and Reproductive Health) champion shared about menstrual hygiene and why they were there. The girls were happy and felt seen. The boys were educated and even carried packs for their sisters who were not present.

What made the day different was not just 'what' was given. It was 'who' gave it. Women carrying deep pain of loss chose to pour into others. Choosing generosity as they navigate the .
A reminder to us that sometimes the journey forward can look like reaching out to support others and that's okay.

This was just pure compassion! This is what looks like. We're proud of this cohort.

Yesterday, we gathered for a deeply meaningful brunch themed , with grieving mums
women bound by love, loss, and quiet strength. 🀍

We shared our journeys openly, speaking of our babies, our pain, and the ways we are learning to cope one day at a time.

In a tender moment of remembrance, we wrote down the beautiful names of our babies and lit candles in their honor; each flame a symbol of love that will never fade.

We also took time for a simple yet powerful activity "Heart Notes of Gratitude". For ten minutes, each of us wrote a note to someone who has been a pillar of support in our lives. It was a reminder that even in grief, there is still kindness, presence, and love surrounding us.

We ate together, laughed gently, and held space for one another. And as we closed, we made a promise, not just to ourselves, but to others.
That we will continue reaching out to mums who are still walking this journey alone, offering them the emotional support and understanding they deserve.

Yesterday, was not just about grief; it was about connection, remembrance, and hope. 🀍

The by Zuri Nzilani Foundation at hospitals in Kenya, like Machakos County Referral Hospital, is important and a necessary part of holistic care.
Health professionals are confident in their work, and families feel supported all the way.

Compassionate bereavement care right from the start at the hospital following makes a big difference not just to the affected families but to the health workers as well.

We appreciate for the amazing work they do equipping health professionals with essential bereavement care training skills.

Empower Mama's founder Vivian Gaiko was privileged to attend one of Zuri Nzilani Foundation's impact assessment session at Machakos County Referral Hospital. "Healthcare workers don't just gain skills from the training but also gain confidence and are able to show up for parents and families with compassion when it matters most. The health workers at Machakos looked happier and they mentioned feeling confident and more prepared for the families they serve. Samuel and Susan's journey showed the gratitude they had to the health professionals that attended to them during their hardest time following the loss of their twins." she said.

Thank you NTV Kenya for highlighting this critical part of care that is needed for any strong health system and is part of respectful maternity care. must be standard and continuous and not optional in all health facilities across and other countries. Let's invest in health workers so that they can care for families not only in moments of life but even during unexpected outcomes.

Past week we had a refreshing meet and greet over lunch.
Some mums in different seasons of life met again after a long while.
What stood out was the power of shared connection and community.

We shared takeaways from the and ideas to better support those in areas with limited resources and ensuring advocacy activities translate into action in and promoting compassionate a standard.

We lit candles in honour of our babies.
We shared gifts.
And most importantly we held space for each other...
For the stories that are often unheard or spoken about even as time passes,
For the grief that doesn't have an endpoint,
For the love that is forever,
And for the quiet strength that continues long after the world moves on.

This day was a reminder that as much as support group sessions have a beginning and an end,
it's okay to allow them to evolve and remain accessible for

Spaces like these are meaningful and necessary.

Because behind every statistics we see about baby loss, is a mother, a family, and a story that deserves to be remembered. 🀍
