As part of Rotary International’s September Basic Education and Literacy Month, the Rotaract Club of Malindi, in partnership with Nawiri Africa, Rotary Malindi , Rotaract Club of Kilifi and Rotaract Club of Pwani University , conducted an education and community outreach at Kadzuyuni Primary School now comprehensive school.
The initiative reached more than 90 Grade 9 learners through a combination of education, mentorship, hygiene support and environmental conservation activities.
Key highlights included:
-10 classroom blackboards restored to improve the learning environment in a school serving approximately 1,073 pupils with limited classroom facilities.
-Grade 9 mentorship focusing on education, personal development, goal setting and future pathways.
-98 learner support packages distributed, 45 for boys and 53 for girls containing essential hygiene, personal-care and learning items. Girls also received a six-month supply of disposable sanitary pads and re-usable pads, while boys also received basic personal-care items including boxers.
-Two needy but high-performing girls received additional educational and menstrual hygiene support.
-Four teachers also received personal and educational support packages in recognition of their role in supporting learners.
-15 trees planted, integrating environmental conservation into the education initiative.
The outreach reflects a holistic approach to education by addressing not only classroom needs, but also mentorship, hygiene, dignity, environmental responsibility and learner well-being.
For the Rotaract Club of Malindi, the initiative further strengthens our ongoing partnership with Kadzuyuni Comprehensive School, where this rotary year, we are working towards the completion of a four-classroom structure. It also reinforces the club’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, community service and environmental sustainability.
