Last Wednesday Shella Environmental with Municipality of Malindi, Onemilliontrees4Kilifi and Maono Space, we went to support Funpot Skating Club during their school tree-planting activity. We assisted students get their hands dirty and learn the importance of environmental conservation firsthand.

Watching the next generation take immediate ownership of their local environment is exactly why community collaboration matters. Every single tree planted by these students brings the community closer to a healthier, more sustainable future. Thank you Funpot Skating Club for leading the charge and inspiring the environmental champions of tomorrow!

Last Wednesday, environmental organizations came together for a critical pre-visit to SAMAHCO to map out an upcoming pre-event for World Environment Day scheduled to happen on the 3/6/2026. Driven by a shared vision to restore and protect vital coastal ecosystems, Shella Environmental, the Municipality of Malindi, Onemilliontrees4Kilifi, Funpot, Maono Space, other organizations and members of the SAMAHCO Group joined forces to plan an ambitious initiative to plant 5,000 mangroves.
Mangroves are essential to coastal biodiversity, acting as a natural barrier against erosion and providing a breeding ground for marine life. By combining resources and expertise, this partnership is laying the groundwork for a highly impactful restoration project. Stay tuned as we gear up for the main event and take a massive step toward a greener Kilifi!

The Dhome Kikwetu Mini-Series & Media Highlights!
We are thrilled to announce that we are creating an exclusive mini-series to document the incredible journey of the Dhome Kikwetu Cultural Festival 2026. We want to take you behind the scenes to experience the heart and soul of this event, from the early planning stages to the vibrant celebrations at the Mambrui Sand Dunes.

To bring this vision to life, we worked extensively across various platforms, and our success was fueled by powerful media partners who share our passion for heritage:
1. Swahili Pot Cafe: A special shout-out to Dorcas for inviting us onto your radio talk show. It was a wonderful opportunity to dive deep into our cultural roots with your listeners.

2. Kaya FM: We are deeply grateful for the vital airtime provided to advertise the festival. Your support ensured our message reached the heart of the community across the coastal region.

What to expect in our Mini-Series;
1. The Build-Up: The "Before" – documenting the community organizing, the planning sessions, and the road to the festival.
2. The Heart: The "During" – capturing the energy of the traditional dances, the Swahili traditional cuisine, and the 2,500+ participants.
3. The Legacy: The "After" – reflecting on the success and the long-term impact on youth engagement and cultural conservation. Thoya Ngumbao Azani Enocks Becksy Masika Ngala Maono Space Swahilipot Hub Cisco Academy Girls to Women

I am thrilled to share that members of the Shella Environmental Youth Group, serving as representatives of the Malindi Town Ward Climate Change Planning Committee (WCCPC), have played a key role in the formation of the Malindi Municipality Urban Climate Risk Profile.
By participating in the stakeholder engagement at the Malindi Municipal Chambers, our youth leaders provided vital ground-level data on local hazards like coastal erosion, drought and flooding, ensuring that community-driven solutions are at the heart of Malindi's resilience strategy. This collaboration between the Municipality of Malindi and our youth advocates highlights the power of inclusive climate action in protecting our infrastructure and natural assets for future generations.

Two weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hosting the National Council for Persons with Disability, Kilifi County, at our office to explore a strategic partnership for the upcoming launch of Leta Shamba Nyumbani for PWDs.

We believe that sustainable farming should be accessible to everyone. During the visit, we took the team to tour our established kitchen gardens currently managed by local widows to demonstrate how this model can be successfully replicated and adapted for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Seeing the impact of these gardens firsthand sparked an inspiring conversation about empowerment, nutrition, and economic independence. We are eager to begin this journey and look forward to a fruitful collaboration.

At Shella Environmental, we believe true sustainability must be inclusive, which is why we are proud to announce our participation in the inception meeting for the Komboa Project. Led by the United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) and running from 2026 to 2028, this transformative initiative aims to empower County Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) networks to drive disability inclusion across Kenya. By focusing on building a strong legal foundation, bridging the persistent implementation gap, and strengthening the growing disability movement, the Komboa Project is creating the structural change necessary for a more equitable nation.

Our deep interest in this project stems from our current work implementing "Leta Shamba Nyumbani for PWDs." This year, we are focused on bringing sustainable, home-based farming solutions directly to persons with disabilities to ensure food security and economic independence. By aligning our grassroots agricultural expertise with UDPK’s strategic advocacy, we are ensuring that the "Implementation Gap" is closed with practical, life-changing solutions. We look forward to collaborating with OPD networks over the next three years to ensure that the movement for disability rights in Kenya is both legally protected and environmentally sustainable.

We are thrilled to announce that the next phase of our Leta Shamba Nyumbani project is officially underway! As our community faces the urgent challenges of growing food insecurity and environmental degradation, we are continuing our mission to bring climate-smart solutions directly to those who need them most.

By delivering fresh seedlings for sack gardens, we are helping widows in Shella and Malindi Town adapt to a changing climate. This isn't just about farming; it’s a direct action against the quiet loss of trees and resources that nourish our heritage.

Why this matters in the fight against climate change:

1. Climate-Resilient Agriculture: We use careful water conservation and organic techniques to create sustainable garden models in areas affected by limited rainfall.
2. Economic Empowerment: Selling surplus produce allows these resilient women to build independence and cater to essential needs, such as school fees.

At Shella Environmental Youth Group (SEYG), we believe that when communities nurture their land using what they already have, they build a future deeply rooted in who they are. We are not just starting projects; we are sustaining a movement for a healthier planet.

Empowering the Future: The Magarini Youth Information Forum

We are excited to announce that Shella Environmental Youth Group, in collaboration with the Girls to Women Foundation and other partners, will host the Magarini Youth Information Forum on Saturday, 14th February 2026. This large-scale engagement platform will take place at the Mapimo Vocational Training Centre Grounds from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. We are expecting to host approximately 1,000 young people from across the wards of Magarini Constituency to participate in this transformative day of learning and growth.

The forum is designed to bridge the information gap by providing youth with practical, future-oriented insights into education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with representatives from prestigious institutions and organizations such as Pwani University, EDU-Initiative KenyaSamaritan's Purse Kenya University, Medical Training College and several Technical Vocational Training Centres. Furthermore, the event will highlight vital government initiatives like the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA), which aims to promote socio-economic inclusion for the youth.

As part of Shella Environmental’s core mission, we will be highlighting our project dedicated to awareness on conserving our indigenous biodiversity. We believe that sustainable development and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand with youth empowerment. To put this into action, we aim to plant indigenous fruit trees during the occasion, symbolizing our commitment to a greener, food-secure, and more resilient Kilifi County.

We have officially invited Mr. Fikirini Jacobs, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, to serve as our Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker. His presence will reaffirm the importance of nurturing youth potential through innovation and inclusive development. We look forward to a day of meaningful dialogue, mentorship, and community action as we plant the seeds for a better tomorrow.
