Join Us This Saturday, 28th February 2026, for a Mangrove Restoration & Cleanup at Kirepwe Island!

Building on the incredible momentum of our recent restoration work, Kwetu Yetu CBO invites you to join us this Saturday for a hands-on mangrove planting and beach cleanup activity at the beautiful Kirepwe Island. Together with the Kirepwe Youth Group, we'll be restoring the island's vital mangrove creek ecosystem — planting propagules, clearing debris, and continuing the important work of protecting our coastline, supporting biodiversity, and building community resilience. Whether you're a first-time volunteer or a returning friend, this is your chance to get your hands in the soil, learn from local youth who carry generations of ecological knowledge, and make a real, lasting impact on one of Kilifi's most treasured wetland ecosystems. Let's show up for our coast — because healthy mangroves mean a healthier future for all of us.

All are Welcome.

Wetlands: The Parts of Nature That Help Our Land “Breathe”

Some of the most important benefits we get from nature are the ones we never notice. We call these non-use benefits — things that help us every day, even though we don’t directly see or use them.A good example is oxygen. We breathe it freely every second. We don’t think about it. We don’t pay for it. We assume it will always be there....

Protecting Riparian Land Along the Sabaki River: A Shared Responsibility

The Sabaki River is one of the lifelines of our community. It provides water for farming, domestic use, and supports local wildlife. Yet, over the years, we have witnessed the devastating consequences of flooding along its banks — farms washed away, land literally swallowed by the river, and even human-wildlife conflicts, particularly with hippos, becoming more common. These events remind us that how we manage land near the river has a direct impact on our lives....

Celebrating International Day of Forests 2025: Forests and Foods
Join us in Malindi as we commemorate the International Day of Forests 2025 under the theme “Forests and Foods.” This year, we are bringing together changemakers from community-based organizations and beyond for a dynamic discussion on sustainable forests and their role in environmental conservation.
📅 Date: March 20, 2025
📍 Location: Maono Space
The discussion will highlight how forests support food security, biodiversity, and climate resilience while emphasizing that everyone, regardless of their area of service, has a role in conservation. This theme is especially relevant as Malindi falls within the Malindi-Watamu-Arabuko Sokoke Biosphere, a globally recognized ecosystem rich in biodiversity and essential to local livelihoods.
This is an opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate, and inspire action toward sustainable environmental stewardship. All are welcome! Let’s work together to protect our forests and secure a greener future.
