Hey, let’s talk about peace…
We all know the political heat is rising but do our communities have to feel the burn?
At Action for Empowerment CBO, we’ve seen how quickly political tension can tear people apart. A simple difference of opinion can turn into hate, fear or even violence and honestly “no political win is worth losing our peace”.
Peace isn’t just a nice idea it’s what allows women, youth and families to thrive. Without it, empowerment doesn’t exist. That’s why we keep pushing for dialogue, understanding and respect in our communities. We create safe spaces where everyone’s voice matters, conflicts are solved constructively and people rise above division.
So here’s our simple call to action:
• Speak with care words can build or destroy.
• Don’t let anyone manipulate you into spreading hate.
• Listen, talk and understand differences shouldn’t divide us.
• Look out for one another our shared humanity is bigger than politics.
Let’s not let politics undo the progress we’ve worked so hard to build for years.

We call on society to change the narrative: parenting is a shared responsibility, not a woman’s duty alone. Support mothers, hold fathers accountable, and stop the double standards.
Together we can build a fairer, more supportive community.

Denied school. Denied healthcare. Denied the chance to simply be children. How long will we stay silent? It’s time to stand up, speak out and protect their rights before more futures are destroyed.

Sexual harassment at work is not harmless. It is not a joke. It is abuse.

Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their workplace. Making unwanted sexual comments, sending inappropriate messages, making advances after someone has said no, or using your position to pressure another person is wrong and unacceptable.
Power is meant to guide and support, not to intimidate or exploit. When someone ignores boundaries, spreads rumors, or threatens a person’s job to gain control, real harm is caused. Fear, stress, shame, and silence follow many victims long after the moment has passed.

Respect at work is not optional, especially between supervisors and junior staff. Professionalism means understanding consent, honoring boundaries, and treating people with dignity at all times.
Sexual harassment has consequences. It can lead to disciplinary action, legal accountability, damaged reputations, and loss of employment. No position or title places anyone above respect or the law.

Speaking out is not disrespectful. It is courage. Silence protects abuse, but accountability protects people.
Let us create workplaces where dignity is protected, voices are heard, and everyone can work without fear. Respect people. Respect boundaries. Respect humanity.

Glad to have had our members join the celebrations of International Women’s Day at Karisa Maitha Grounds. The event brought together women, leaders, and community members to reflect on the progress made and the work that still lies ahead in advancing women’s empowerment.

We were encouraged to see that the day was not only marked by speeches and celebration, but also by practical support aimed at uplifting women economically. More than 21 women’s groups received items such as water tanks, sufurias, tents, and chairs to help strengthen their small businesses and improve their livelihoods.

We believe that empowering women goes beyond words, it requires real investment in women’s economic independence, leadership, and opportunities. Supporting women-led groups with tools that help them grow their enterprises is an important step toward building stronger families and resilient communities.

We commend the efforts by Kilifi County Government to support women across Kilifi and encourage continued collaboration between government, civil society, and communities to ensure that women have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Together, we can continue building a future where women’s economic empowerment becomes a foundation for sustainable community development in Kilifi County. 💜

This Women’s Week, I just want to take a moment to send love to every woman out there who’s facing her own battles. Whether it’s dealing with health issues, juggling bills, raising kids, navigating single motherhood, divorce, fighting through court cases, battling emotional struggles, or any other hardship you’re facing whatever it is, you are not alone. My thoughts are with you. You are stronger than you think and even on the hardest days, you’re still pushing through.
To those of you who have someone to talk to, who have people to share your struggles with your strength in reaching out is something special. And to those of you who feel like you’re carrying it all on your own your resilience is just as incredible. You might feel like it’s a lot, but you’ve been through so much already and you’re still standing strong.
Whatever you’re dealing with right now, just remember that this moment is not forever. This too shall pass. Things might seem tough now, but trust me when I say that things will get better. Take it one day at a time, and don’t be hard on yourself for needing to pause or regroup. You’re allowed to rest and reset.
The challenges we face aren’t meant to break us they’re shaping us, making us stronger, even if it’s hard to see it right now. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t give up. You’re doing the best you can, and that’s more than enough. You are worthy of every good thing that’s coming your way.
This is from my heart to yours. I’m sending love, I’m sending hugs, I’m sending healing to every broken heart. Keep pushing forward, keep believing in yourself and know that you’ve got this. You are stronger than you think.

Women and young people make up the majority of registered voters. We show up in large numbers on election day. But even with these numbers, leadership spaces don’t always reflect our voices, priorities, or lived realities. That’s where voter education focused on gender equality and youth inclusion becomes essential.

Today, Action for Empowerment (AFE) had the honour of joining our partners at the Malindi Community Human Rights Centre in hosting Benjamin O’Brien Jalowsky, Political and Human Rights Officer at the US Embassy Nairobi, for a courtesy visit in Malindi.

The engagement created an important space for reflection on the current human rights landscape in Kenya and meaningful dialogue on strengthening collaboration to advance justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights defenders.

We discussed the urgent need for early prevention strategies against religious extremism, enhanced community awareness, protection of freedom of religion and belief, and coordinated multi stakeholder approaches grounded in human rights and the rule of law. The conversation also emphasized safeguarding vulnerable groups, strengthening community trust, and promoting inclusive and rights based governance.

As Action for Empowerment, we remain committed to partnerships and constructive dialogue that promote dignity, equality, and people centered development in our communities.
