Today, Mwanamke Imara successfully held a powerful and impactful “Mjadala Mkekani” session at Kasufini Area, Shella Ward ~ Malindi, bringing together 50 women for an open dialogue on parenting, peacebuilding, safeguarding, child protection, and strengthening family values within our community.

The women openly shared their experiences, challenges, and collective solutions towards raising responsible children, promoting peaceful coexistence, and protecting the future generation from harmful influences affecting society today.

This cultural and community-centered approach created a safe and healing space where women felt heard, empowered, and united in purpose. The participants greatly appreciated the engagement and requested for more similar forums within the community.

Much gratitude to YOWPSUD and Search for Common Ground for supporting this important peace initiative and standing with communities in promoting unity, resilience, and positive social transformation.

🔥 DHOME – Muyeye Village Dialogue 🔥
Today, over 40 men gathered at Muyeye Villager near Malindi high school for a powerful Dhome session to openly reflect on where “the rain started beating us” as a community, and collectively discuss practical solutions towards improving security and protecting our youth.
The discussion focused on insecurity, the rise of Mawoza-Woza gangs, mentorship, parenting, peacebuilding and community responsibility in preventing violence and extremism.
This was more than a meeting ~it was a restoration of cultural dialogue, unity and men taking responsibility for the future of our society.
Special appreciation to YOWPSUD and Search for Common Ground for their great support towards this important community initiative.
Together, through dialogue and collective action, we can build a safer, peaceful and stronger Malindi.

Today, Saturday 15th May 2026, was a memorable and impactful day as Mwanamke Imara Kilifi paid a heartfelt visit to the Male GK Prison. The visit was marked by compassion, unity, and the spirit of giving back to society.

We had the opportunity to interact with the inmates, share words of encouragement, and donate essential items including soap, toothpaste, tissue, and other basic necessities. Beyond the donations, the visit reminded us all of the importance of humanity, hope, and second chances.

We sincerely appreciate every member, partner, and donor who made this noble activity successful. Special gratitude goes to all partners, including Judiciary .

Together, we continue to champion dignity, peace, empowerment, and positive transformation within our communities. Mwanamke Imara remains committed to touching lives and building a more compassionate society for all.

Silence has become a language in many communities.
“Simanya”, I don’t know, is no longer just a phrase, but a culture that keeps survivors silent, protects perpetrators, weakens early warning systems, and denies communities justice.

Our latest article, “The Simanya Syndrome,” explores how fear, stigma, and silence continue to affect reporting of VE, GBV, SGBV, TFGBV, and other protection concerns in Kilifi County.

Breaking silence is the first step toward justice, protection, and safer communities.

In many communities across Kilifi County, one phrase is often heard whenever difficult questions are asked: “Simanya”, “I don’t know.”At face value, the phrase may appear harmless. But over time, “Simanya” has evolved into more than just a response. It has become a social coping mechan...

We held a powerful engagement with the Shella community at Takaye Social Hall in Shella Ward. The meeting created a safe space for open dialogue, where residents boldly addressed the challenge of Mawoza and collectively explored practical solutions.
Key resolutions emerged, including the formation of a Community Safety Watch Team to strengthen reporting mechanisms, enhance coordination, and drive sustained awareness within the community.
This marks a significant step toward building a safer, more resilient Shella—led by the voices and actions of its own people.

.This Saturday, we create space for something that is often ignored, yet deeply felt—our mental health.
Join us for a powerful youth dialogue in Kilifi County focused on mental health and resilience. In a time where many young people silently carry the weight of stress, unemployment, family pressure, trauma, and uncertainty about the future, this conversation comes as a much-needed safe space to speak, to listen, and to heal.
This is more than just a discussion—it is a movement towards breaking stigma, building inner strength, and reminding every young person that they are not alone. Together, we will explore practical ways of coping, share lived experiences, and strengthen our resilience as a community. Because resilience is not about never falling—it’s about rising again, stronger, supported, and hopeful.
Let’s come together to uplift one another, amplify our voices, and nurture a generation that is mentally strong, aware, and empowered.
Your voice matters. Your story matters. You matter.

The voice of the community in Kilifi County is rising—stronger, more organized, and more determined than ever before—thanks to the deliberate efforts of PEN Kenya.

With the Public Benefit Organisations Act now fully operational, a new chapter has opened for civil society. NGOs and CBOs across Kilifi are stepping forward to embrace compliance—not just as a legal requirement, but as a pathway to legitimacy, accountability, and greater impact.

Through a powerful Baraza bringing together representatives from the Kilifi CSO Network, Sauti ya Wanawake Pwani, and Youth Activista, community actors are being equipped with critical knowledge on how to register and operate as Public Benefit Organizations. This is more than a training—it is a movement to formalize grassroots voices that have for too long operated on the margins.

This moment marks a shift: from fragmented efforts to a united, compliant, and empowered civil society sector that can effectively advocate, influence policy, and respond to the real needs of the people.

We extend our sincere appreciation to United Nations Development Programme for stepping in to support this transformative process. Their partnership is not only strengthening systems—it is amplifying voices that truly matter.
Kilifi is not just aligning with the law.

is reclaiming its voice.
