What Does the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) Plan for 2027 Mean for Youth? The IEBC’s 2025–2027 Operational Plan places emphasis on voter education, stakeholder engagement and inclusive electoral processes, creating important entry points for young people to participate meaningfully in Kenya’s democratic process.
Through the RESTORE Programme, Malindi Community Human Rights Centre (MCHRC) is engaging with young people to ensure that Coastal youth voices are heard, valued and reflected in the 2027 electoral process.
From Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River and Taita Taveta, young people have a critical role to play in shaping the future of our communities and our country. Youth participation is not just about voting, it is about having a voice in the decisions that shape our future.

Coast Youth Forum 2026
They’re here! Electoral institutions, youth leaders, civil society organisations and partners have converged for the Coast Regional Electoral Stakeholders and Youth Consultative Forum.
Malindi Community Human Rights Centre (MCHRC) was proud to take part in this important engagement, bringing together young people from all six Coast counties to discuss the role of youth in shaping Kenya’s electoral future and strengthening our democratic space ahead of the 2027 General Elections under the RESTORE Project implemented by Human Rights Agenda[HURIA]
The forum provides a powerful platform for young people to raise their voices, share experiences, engage electoral stakeholders and contribute to a stronger Youth-State Social Contract.
When young people participate, democracy becomes stronger. When their voices are heard, the future becomes more inclusive.
Youth are not just voters, we are stakeholders, leaders and partners in building the Coast and Kenya we want.

Today, as we celebrate International Youth Day, Malindi Community Human Rights Centre (MCHRC) celebrates the energy, creativity, courage and potential of young people in Malindi, Kilifi County and beyond. We believe that when young people are empowered with knowledge, opportunities and a platform to participate, they become powerful agents of positive change in their communities.
From human rights advocacy and social justice to entrepreneurship, climate action, education, leadership and community development, young people must be at the centre of decisions that shape their present and future.

Today, on International Widows' Day, we stand in solidarity with millions of widows across the world whose lives have been shaped by loss, resilience, and courage.
For far too many widows, the death of a spouse is followed by economic hardship, discrimination, social exclusion, harmful cultural practices, and denial of their fundamental rights. Their voices deserve to be heard, their dignity respected, and their rights protected.
As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to creating a society where widows are empowered, protected, and given equal opportunities to rebuild their lives with hope and dignity. No widow should suffer in silence or be left behind because of her marital status.
Together, let us advocate for justice, economic empowerment, legal protection, and social inclusion for all widows.

The Malindi Community Human Rights Centre (MCHRC) expresses profound concern over the continued disappearance of six individuals who were arrested on 25th June 2026 during the commemoration of the protests. As of this statement, their whereabouts remain unknown, and they have not been presented before any known police station or court of law. This prolonged incommunicado detention raises serious concerns regarding their safety, security, and fundamental rights.
The Constitution of Kenya guarantees every person the right to liberty, fair administrative action, due process, and protection from arbitrary arrest or detention. It further requires that every person arrested be informed promptly of the reasons for their arrest, be granted access to legal representation and family, and be presented before a court within the constitutionally prescribed time. Any departure from these legal safeguards undermines the rule of law and erodes public confidence in our justice system.
We therefore call upon the National Police Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations - DCI, Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), and all other relevant state agencies to urgently account for the whereabouts of the missing individuals. If they are in lawful custody, they must immediately be granted access to their families and legal counsel and be presented before a competent court without further delay. If they are not in state custody, the relevant authorities must launch prompt, transparent, and independent investigations to establish their whereabouts.
The Malindi Community Human Rights Centre stands in unwavering solidarity with the affected families and all Kenyans committed to justice, accountability, and constitutionalism. Enforced disappearances have no place in a democratic society governed by the rule of law. We will continue to monitor this matter closely, provide legal and human rights support where necessary, and advocate relentlessly until every missing person is accounted for.
Every hour of silence deepens the pain of families waiting for answers. Every unlawful disappearance is an assault on the Constitution and the values we hold as a nation. Kenya must never normalize enforced disappearances.

On June 25th 2024, We witnessed patriotism on a scale I had never seen before.
We saw young Kenyans put aside their fears, their comfort, and even their safety to stand for the future they believed their country deserved. They marched not out of hatred, but out of love for Kenya. They raised their voices not to destroy, but to demand accountability, justice, and a better tomorrow. Some of them never made it back home.
Today, 2 Years down we remember those brave souls whose lives were cut short during the Finance Bill 2024 protests. We honor their courage, mourn their loss, and stand in solidarity with the families who continue to carry the pain of their absence.
A nation that forgets its heroes risks repeating its mistakes. Their sacrifice must never be erased from our collective memory, and justice must never be denied to those who paid the ultimate price for exercising their constitutional rights.
May our fallen heroes and heroines continue to rest in power. May truth prevail, accountability be achieved, and may the conscience of all those responsible never allow them to forget the lives that were lost.
We remember.
We honor.
We will never forget.
