Monica's children home is in place to actively support the girl child, and extend its outreach to neighbouring slum areas where the girl child is a victim of illiteracy, teenage pregnancies, prostitution, physical abuse and HIV/Aids. The home was completed in 2003 and opened its doors to the first ten girls. Since then it has been a place of solace for the orphaned girl child within the community
of Githurai and other surrounding slums. St Monica's is currently home to 60 girls and it is our hope that as we expand our support base to be able to touch the lives of more children in our community. The children are brought to the home by relatives, church leaders and community development groups. At St. Monica’s we also help the children who have experienced trauma rebuild themselves and regain their self-confidence. By providing them with the sense of comfort, security and fraternity, we set the foundation for their personal development. In addition, through providing the girls with a quality formal education and teaching them vital life skills, we ensure that the girls are well equipped to survive in the world. One can help St Monica's children home though sponsoring a child’s education, upkeep, sponsoring one of the home projects, donations, and even just availing your time to interact with our children.
