On Saturday 9th May, members of the Rotary Club of Athi River went on a WASH needs assessment road trip to Mwingi, Kitui County.

The visit was both eye-opening and humbling as we engaged the communities and heard firsthand the challenges they face due to water scarcity — from walking long distances in search of water, to the prevalence of water-borne diseases, and children missing school to help fetch this basic but critical resource.

As part of a structured needs assessment and project planning process, we were able to capture key community needs, stakeholder insights, and potential impact areas that will guide the sustainability and implementation of the intervention.

With the findings gathered, we now look forward to the possibility of implementing a transformative WASH project through the drilling of two boreholes in partnership with RC Davenport, USA, and Fishers of Men Ministries. The potential impact on health, education, dignity, and economic productivity within these communities is immense.

Service above self continues to remind us that sustainable impact begins with listening, planning, and working together with the community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Bridget Wanyaga-Founder and CEO Ascend Training, for guiding us through the distinct leadership voices of the Nurturer, the Creative, the Guardian, the Connector, and the Pioneer.

Each archetype offered a lens for self-reflection and a refined understanding of how we show up, influence, and serve in our respective spaces.

We leave better informed and more intentional about the voices we amplify in our leadership journey.

Thank you for such a compelling and elegantly delivered experience.

We also celebrated our April babies with some delicious cake!

The Rotary Club of Athi River had the distinct privilege of hosting a compelling session on State of Our Schools, led by Aloice Omondi.

With remarkable insight, he guided us through the current landscape of government interventions, illuminated the most pressing gaps, and, importantly, challenged us to consider where our collective efforts may be most meaningfully applied.

What unfolded was a deeply engaged exchange marked by intellectual rigour and genuine concern for the future of our children. It was both sobering and inspiring in equal measure.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Aloice Omondi for his eloquence and depth, to Buddy Group Vybz Cartel for their stewardship of the evening, and to every Rotarian and guest whose presence and contribution elevated the conversation.

Together, we remain committed to service above self.

The Ladies Book Club of the Rotary Club of Athi River continues to offer a most delightful blend of intellect, warmth, and refined conversation.

At our most recent gathering, we engaged in a thoughtful discussion of Confessions of Nairobi Women by Joan Thatiah—a compelling and candid work that invited both introspection and lively exchange. The diversity of perspectives shared made for a truly enriching experience.

Beyond the pages, the club remains a cherished space for bonding, enlightening literary discourse, and a shared journey within Rotary marked by purpose and camaraderie.

To many more afternoons of stimulating conversation and gracious connection!🥂
