A Message from Disability Advocacy and Services Kenya (DASK) on World AIDS Day 2025
"Ending AIDS is Incomplete Without Inclusion"

As we join the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council and the global community in marking World AIDS Day 2025 under the theme "End AIDS in Adolescents & Young People," Disability Advocacy and Services Kenya (DASK) stands in solidarity.

Our mission compels us to highlight a critical, yet often overlooked, reality in the fight against HIV/AIDS: Adolescents and young persons with disabilities are among the most vulnerable and left behind.

They face compounded barriers:

Lack of Accessible Information: HIV prevention and sexual health education are rarely available in accessible formats (Braille, sign language, easy-read).

Stigma & Discrimination: Facing double stigma based on both their disability and HIV status, many are discouraged from seeking testing, treatment, and support.

Inaccessible Health Services: Many health facilities and support groups are not physically accessible, and healthcare providers may lack the training to communicate effectively with all persons.

Our Call to Action:

To truly and , our response must be inclusive by design. We call upon all stakeholders—government, partners, and communities—to:

Integrate Disability Inclusion into all HIV/AIDS programming, policies, and communication materials.

Ensure that sexual and reproductive health services, including HIV testing and counseling, are fully accessible to adolescents and young people with all types of disabilities.

Engage young persons with disabilities directly in the design, implementation, and monitoring of these programs. Nothing About Us, Without Us!

At DASK, we reaffirm our commitment to breaking down these barriers. We will continue to empower persons with disabilities with knowledge, advocate for their rights to inclusive healthcare, and work tirelessly to ensure no one is left behind in the race to end AIDS.

Together, in one race and with one goal, we can build a healthier, more inclusive, and AIDS-free future for ALL young people in Kenya.

Leveling Up Our Monitoring & Evaluation: A Deep Dive into Outcome Harvesting

This past week, from November 25 to 27, I was privileged to represent Disability Advocacy and Services Kenya (DASK) at a transformative four-day workshop on Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) and Outcome Harvesting. The event, expertly organized by Amref Health Africa and the CLAW Consortium, was held at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi.

In our mission to advance the rights of persons with disabilities, evidence-based advocacy is non-negotiable. This training was a game-changer, equipping us with advanced methodologies to systematically capture, verify, and analyze the outcomes of our work. Outcome harvesting allows us to move beyond simple metrics and truly demonstrate our impact, how our advocacy changes policies, shifts perspectives, and improves lives.

A huge thank you to Amref and the CLAW Consortium for fostering a collaborative space for learning and for their commitment to strengthening the capacity of organizations like ours. The insights gained will be instrumental in refining our CLM frameworks, ensuring that the voices of persons with disabilities are not just heard but are powerfully documented to drive meaningful change.

We are excited to integrate these new tools to enhance our accountability and amplify our impact!

What an incredible two days of learning, collaboration, and empowerment! The Peer Monitor Biannual Review and Advocacy Training on Nov 18-19 have equipped us with new tools and renewed energy. This November, during Justice Children Service Month, Disability Advocacy and Services Kenya proudly joined court stakeholders at Machakos Law Court for the official launch under the theme "Justice for Every Child." With the support of Principal Judge Lady Justice Maina and partners including magistrates, LSK, Children’s Services, ODPP, police, and child protection organizations, we celebrated the commitment to swift, fair, and child-centered justice. We were honored to launch a new children’s play area donated by Terry Children’s Home, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for children within the court environment. At DASK, we remain dedicated to upholding the rights of all children, ensuring justice that is accessible and inclusive for every child.

On Wednesday 15th, October, 2025 DASK CEO Festus Mwanza, court SRM Hon.Nabwana, probation, officer mwala, ODPP, POLICE graced the launch of children service month for mwala court station in st.Marys rehabilitation center Mbiuni the activity included community dialogue, sensitization on legal matters and access of justice for children and why November is the justice month for children, we planted trees and had fun with the children with disabilities in the institution
