Today, Lungalunga Youth CBO proudly joined the County Government and other stakeholders in commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Day at Ng’onzini Primary School in Samburu Sub-County. The event was held under the global theme **“Together for a ,”** a call to action that promotes menstrual health, dignity, education, and the elimination of stigma surrounding menstruation.
The day brought together learners, teachers, community leaders, health practitioners, and development partners in a shared commitment to ensuring that every girl can manage her menstruation safely, confidently, and with dignity. Through interactive and educational sessions, girls were equipped with essential knowledge on menstrual hygiene management, including proper use and disposal of sanitary products, personal hygiene practices, understanding the menstrual cycle, and the importance of seeking accurate health information. These discussions helped demystify menstruation and encouraged girls to embrace it as a normal and healthy part of life.
A key focus of the commemoration was empowering girls to remain in school and actively participate in learning during their menstrual periods. Participants were encouraged to break the silence surrounding menstruation, challenge harmful myths and misconceptions, and support one another in creating a safe and inclusive environment where no girl is held back because of her period. Research and global advocacy efforts continue to show that menstrual health is closely linked to girls’ education, confidence, health, and overall well-being.
The event also highlighted the importance of involving the entire community—including boys, parents, teachers, and leaders—in promoting menstrual health awareness. Building a period-friendly world requires collective action to ensure access to menstrual products, accurate information, supportive school environments, and adequate sanitation facilities for all girls and women.
Lungalunga Youth CBO remains committed to championing the rights, health, and empowerment of adolescent girls and young women. By supporting initiatives such as the County MHM Day commemoration, the organization continues to contribute towards a future where menstruation is no longer a barrier to education, opportunity, or dignity.
