Meet Amana, a 5-year-old girl from Kakemera village. After losing her mother and being abandoned by her father, Amana lived with her elderly grandmother, who cared for her as best she could. But food was often scarce, and simply surviving was a daily struggle. Instead of playing with other children, Amana spent many of her days helping her grandmother make brooms to sell. When our team met her, her little hands were rough from working the straw.
Yet despite everything, Amana greeted our team with a soft, tender smile. Her eyes said so much. She looked beautiful in the dress she had chosen just for the occasion and quickly changed into when she heard the team coming. We gently took her by the hand and walked together to the Land Cruiser. She climbed in quietly and held our hand the entire ride to House of Hope. No words—just her eyes meeting ours in simple trust.
Amana is kind-hearted and generous. At House of Hope, she quickly made new friends and enjoyed a warm meal, savoring every bite. Now, Amana no longer has to spend her days making brooms. She gets to run, laugh, and play with the other children. Her story has been forever changed, and she now has the chance to experience childhood and grow up with dignity and hope.
Amana is looking for sponsors to be part of her story and support her journey at House of Hope. To learn more about becoming her sponsor, visit servone.org/shelter.
