Empowering Farmers, Ensuring Food Security: Groundnuts Training at Achukule
Turkana Eco-Green CBO, in collaboration with the Turkana County Government and the University of Eldoret, successfully conducted a comprehensive hands-on training session for the farmers of the Achukule Irrigation Scheme.
This initiative, under the C-LaSAIR Project, was designed to cover the entire groundnut value chain. We are incredibly grateful to the Ward Crop Officer for Lokichar Ward, whose expertise made this session highly practical. The officer led a live demonstration on proper planting techniques, emphasizing the critical spacing of 60cm by 15cm to ensure optimal yield.
The training covered
âś… Groundnut Production & Field Management
âś… Crop Water Management
âś… Harvesting & Post-Harvesting Best Practices
âś… Value Addition for Market Success
To ensure success from the start, we also conducted a germination test on the groundnut beans prior to planting day—because good harvests begin with quality seeds.
A huge thank you to the County Government of Turkana and University of Eldoret for being a steadfast partner in this project. We are building resilience and boosting agricultural productivity in our community.
