The Kenya Red Cross Society Turkana Branch successfully hosted grassroot First Aid Competitions, bringing together participants from various categories to demonstrate their first aid knowledge, practical skills, teamwork, and emergency response capabilities.

The competition featured eight categories, including Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Staff, Red Cross Action Teams (RCATs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Tertiary Institutions, Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), and Primary Schools, among others. Participants competed across a range of simulated emergency scenarios designed to test their ability to provide effective and timely first aid interventions.

The event provided an excellent platform for participants to showcase their competencies while promoting preparedness, lifesaving skills, and a culture of safety within communities. It also strengthened collaboration and experience-sharing among volunteers, staff, students, and emergency responders.

The branch remains committed to promoting first aid excellence and looks forward to continued engagement in future competitions and capacity-building initiatives.

On 6th June 2026, the Kenya Red Cross Society, Turkana Branch integrated Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) sensitization activities into multiple community engagements across the county.

During the First Aid Competition held at the branch level, the team took the opportunity to create awareness on Ebola, with a strong emphasis on preventive measures such as proper hand hygiene, early reporting of suspected cases, and avoiding contact with infected individuals.

Additionally, through the ongoing outreach programs supported by the Danish Red Cross, sensitization sessions were conducted at Suguta (Lomelo outreach site) and Turkana East (Teletei outreach site). In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the team delivered health education talks focusing on Ebola transmission, signs and symptoms, and the importance of maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation practices within the community. A total of 436(144 males and 292 females) individuals were reached through these sensitization sessions.
Community members were actively engaged and encouraged to adopt safe health practices to reduce the risk of infection and enhance early response in case of suspected outbreaks.

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Turkana Branch responded promptly to a road traffic accident (RTA) along the Lodwar–Lorugum road involving a Probox vehicle. Upon arrival at the scene, the Red Cross Action Team (RCAT) quickly assessed the situation and provided immediate first aid to the injured casualties, helping to stabilize their condition and prevent further complications.

Following the on-site intervention, the casualties were safely evacuated and rushed to Lodwar Referral Hospital for further medical attention. The swift response and coordination of the RCAT team played a critical role in ensuring that the victims received timely care.

KRCS continues to emphasize the importance of rapid emergency response and community preparedness in reducing the impact of such incidents.
