Angaza Network group members successfully completed a two-day workshop at Farmo Hotel, supported by UNDP through PEN/CFF Kenya. The training focused on understanding the Community Act, 2023 and the key changes introduced under the Social Development framework in Kenya.
During the workshop, members were taken through the purpose of the Community Groups Registration Act, 2022 (Community Groups Act, 2022), which provides a clear legal framework for the registration, regulation, and support of community groups in Kenya. The Act is implemented through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
Participants learned about:
The legal recognition of community groups at ward, sub-county, and county levels.
Clear registration procedures and requirements.
Governance structures, including the roles of officials and group constitutions.
Financial accountability, record-keeping, and reporting obligations.
Rights and responsibilities of registered community groups.
The transition from the old self-help group registration system to a more structured and transparent framework.
The training helped Angaza Network members better understand their legal obligations, strengthen internal governance, and position the organization for partnerships and funding opportunities. It also empowered members to confidently comply with national regulations while continuing to serve the community effectively.
We appreciate UNDP and PEN/CFF Kenya for investing in grassroots organizations and strengthening community-led development in Kenya.
