The peace we are witnessing today is one we receive with humility and hope. While it may have been born out of present circumstances and necessity, we sincerely pray that it grows deeper and lasts far beyond this moment. Peace, even when it begins as a convenience, can mature into a lasting covenant when communities choose understanding over conflict.
The people of Turkana and Pokot share a long and intertwined history. For generations, our communities have lived side by side, sharing grazing lands, markets, culture, and social ties. If this relationship is well harnessed and nurtured with wisdom and goodwill, it holds the potential to produce a stable and enduring peace that will benefit both communities for generations to come.
The ongoing disarmament exercise has played a significant role in creating the environment we are witnessing today. By removing instruments of violence from our communities, the process has opened space for dialogue, trust, and coexistence. Disarmament is not merely a security intervention it is a foundation upon which peace can be rebuilt, livelihoods restored, and children allowed to grow without fear.
We therefore express deep appreciation for the disarmament efforts that have made it possible for Turkana and Pokot communities to begin coexisting more peacefully. It is a reminder that when weapons are laid down, humanity has a chance to rise.
Our collective responsibility now is to protect this fragile peace, strengthen cooperation, and invest in the long-standing relationship between our people so that what we are witnessing today becomes not just a temporary calm, but the beginning of a lasting era of unity, stability, and shared prosperity.
May this peace grow stronger each day.
