*Caregivers and Parents of Children with Disabilities**

On July 25, 2026, TUCHIWIDO, a Community-Based Organization, in collaboration with the Nakwamekwi Disabled Self-Help Group, convened a significant meeting at Loyo Hearing Comprehensive School.

This gathering focused on critical issues surrounding rehabilitation and care awareness, addressing the ongoing challenges faced by parents and caregivers of children with disabilities in Turkana.

The discussions underscored the importance of fundamental needs such as medication, education, shelter, clothing, and food.
Both parents and caregivers engaged in informed decision-making, fostering a belief in personal aspirations and reinforcing the idea that the future of every child with a disability is valuable and deserving of protection.
The meeting successfully brought together 20 parents and caregivers, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to better support children with disabilities. Participants gained insights into positioning, feeding, communication, play, and everyday care.

Following the meeting, we distributed milk, biscuits, and diapers for children with disabilities as a gesture of encouragement.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the administration of Loyo Hearing Comprehensive School, the village administrative elder of Nakwapocho village, the vice-chairlady of the Nakwamekwi Disabled Self-Help Group, and all parents and caregivers who participated with courage, hope, and dignity.
Together, we strive to protect, empower, and include these individuals in decision-making processes.

Every child deserves to be treated equally.

Dear Team,

I am pleased to report that TUCHIWIDO CBO was well represented at the two-day EU-funded SPREAD Project training that concluded today at Cradle Akai Lodge, Kakuma.

We sat firmly at the table alongside CSOs from Turkana, Ethiopia, and South Sudan – and our voice was heard.

Key highlights from the training:

· Peace is the bedrock of development – trade, education, and movement depend on it
· CSOs are frontline responders in early warning, mediation, and mobilisation

Next steps:

· Explore joint community activities (dialogues, cultural events)
· Strengthen our early warning and response systems

Tuchiwido was not just present – we actively contributed and left a mark.
