*TUCHIWIDO Commemorates International Day of Order Persons in Turkana Central Sub-County*
Today, TUCHIWIDO, a community based organization joins the global older persons in commemorating the International Day of the Older Persons at the NCPWD office Lodwar next to Lodwar mixed primary and Junior comprehensive school on 1st October, 2026. This event is organizer by Echami Aito in collaboration with NCPWD, TUPADO, KCB, EQUITY, TURK REEF Hotel, Kenya Red Cross Society, Social protection, Turkana County Government, FOLTS, Cooperative Bank, Namo Hospital, Lodwar Hills Hospital,Help Age,and Stegra Hotel under the powerful theme: " The Age of Longevity: Rethinking systems for longer lives "
During the celebrations, the community was urged to take better care of the elderly and ensure they live in dignity and with proper support.
Speakers at the event emphasized the important role older persons play in society as custodians of culture, wisdom, and peace, and called on families to avoid neglecting them.
The elderly, on their part, appealed to the government to incredible the monthly stipend provided under the Inua Jamii cash transfer program, saying the current amount is not enough to meet their basics needs amid the rising cost of living.
They said many of them struggle to afford food, medicine, and other essentials and depend entirely on the support.
Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus who attended the event assured the elderly that their concerns will be forwarded to the National government and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of older persons in Turkana.

*TUCHIWIDO Commemorates International Week of the Deaf in Turkana Central Sub-County*

This week, TUCHIWIDO, a community-based organization, joins the global Deaf community in commemorating the International Week of the Deaf at the NCPWD Lodwar Office, Turkana Central Sub-County, on Saturday, September 26th, 2026.
This event is organized in collaboration with various stakeholders, including TUPADO, NCPWD, TCDA, and TCPDB, to advocate for access, education, healthcare, employment, and empowerment under the powerful theme: *"DECLARING DEAF PEOPLE'S HUMAN RIGHTS."*

We stand in solidarity with the Deaf community in advocating for a society where Deaf individuals can fully participate, access opportunities, receive education, and exercise their rights without barriers.
Inclusion is not a privilege; it is a fundamental human right. From communication to access and participation, small changes can yield significant impacts.

However, awareness must be accompanied by action.

- Ensure accessible communication.
- Remove barriers to essential services.
- Guarantee equal opportunities.
- Uphold the right to information, education, healthcare, employment, and justice.
- Ensure Deaf individuals are involved in decisions that affect their lives.

A total of 100 participants engaged in discussions regarding access, education, healthcare, employment, and the empowerment needs that must be addressed by the government and other development partners.

We express our sincere gratitude to NCPWD, TCPDB, TCDA,TUPADO, and other development partners, as well as Deaf community members and the broader community, for their substantial turnout and active participation in this event.

Following the conclusion of the event, the organizers distributed water and sodas to the participants.

Together, let us remove barriers, promote meaningful inclusion, and uphold the human rights of Deaf individuals.

Today, I visited the Kenya Red Cross Society office in the Turkana branch, Lodwar, to engage for the upcoming International Day of the Deaf on September 21, 2026, at St. Bernadette Special for Hearing Loyo Comprehensive School, Lodwar. The Turkana Coordinator of the Kenya Red Cross Society accepted our request, stating they will support us with porridge and sanitary pads. For inclusivity, hope, love, dignity, and thriving.
Let's support children with hearing disabilities in our schools and society.
