Strengthening Inclusion of PWDs in the 2026/27 Budget Estimates Public Participation in Kajiado County
βPublic participation under the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act must be inclusive, accessible, and representative of all citizens, including Persons with Disabilities. Kajiado County Assembly Budget Committee has demonstrated progress by ensuring the presence of a sign language interpreter during the 2026/27 Budget Estimates engagement, promoting dignity and meaningful participation for the deaf community and other PWD representatives.β
Budget advocacy remains key in strengthening accountability and inclusive governance within our counties. On 6th June 2026, Kajiado County conducted public participation forums on the 2026/27 Budget Estimates in Ongata Rongai and Nkaimurunya wards, followed by Olkeri and Oloolua wards.
The deaf community actively participated alongside other Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Following several memoranda submitted by Kajiado Budget Champions, the County Assembly of Kajiado this time provided a professional sign language interpreter, marking a significant step toward inclusive public participation and accessibility in line with the PFM Act.
