Protecting Our Environment, Securing Our Future

Action Life Kenya proudly joined Lamu County leaders, security actors, civil society organizations, students, and community members at Hindi Comprehensive School to commemorate World Environment Day 2026 through tree planting and environmental awareness activities. The celebrations culminated in a beach clean-up exercise at Kitangani Beach, reaffirming our collective responsibility to safeguard our natural ecosystems.

The fight against climate change begins with individual action and collective commitment. Every tree planted restores hope, every piece of waste collected protects marine life, and every community member engaged strengthens our resilience for future generations.

As a coastal community whose livelihoods depend on a healthy environment, we must continue championing sustainable practices that protect our oceans, forests, and biodiversity. Together, we are building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Lamu.

The environment is not inherited from our ancestors; it is borrowed from our children.

HAPPY MADARAKA DAY! 🇰🇪

Today, we proudly celebrate Madaraka Day — a historic moment that reminds us of the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who paved the way for Kenya's self-governance and freedom.

As we commemorate this significant day, we are reminded that true freedom goes beyond independence; it is reflected in our collective responsibility to create opportunities, empower communities, and build a nation where every individual can thrive with dignity and hope.

At Action Life, we remain committed to transforming lives and creating lasting impact through youth empowerment, peacebuilding, education, community resilience, women's empowerment, sports for development, and sustainable livelihoods. Every training, every dialogue, every community initiative, and every life transformed contributes to the Kenya we envision — united, peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous.

This Madaraka Day, let us celebrate not only our nation's journey but also the power of communities working together to drive positive change. Let us honor the legacy of our heroes by becoming agents of transformation in our homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.

Together, we can build a stronger Kenya where every voice matters, every dream is valid, and every citizen has the opportunity to succeed.

Pamoja Tujenge Kenya Imara. Pamoja Tuwe Mabadiliko.

✨ Freedom. Unity. Progress. Impact.

Action Life, through the KCERP Program, successfully convened an Inter-Ethical Dialogue Forum at Majembeni – Mkunumbi Ward, bringing together key stakeholders including Area DCC Mr. Ahmed Somo, administration and security actors, the Area OCS, RDU In-Charge, religious leaders, Nyumba Kumi representatives, village elders, ADR Committee members, and Peace Committee members to foster inclusive dialogue and strengthen social cohesion within the community.

The forum provided a safe and constructive platform for candid conversations around the growing tensions and conflicts between herders and farmers across the Pangani to Widho areas. Recognizing the importance of collaborative peacebuilding, participants engaged in open discussions aimed at identifying the root causes of conflict and collectively exploring sustainable solutions to promote peaceful coexistence.

Key thematic areas discussed during the dialogue included conflict-sensitive communication as a tool for preventing escalation of disputes; strengthening information sharing systems and Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) mechanisms to proactively address emerging conflicts; and reinforcing the message that mutual respect is the foundation of lasting peace.

Participants further emphasized the need to uphold cultural and religious diversity by promoting tolerance, understanding, and social inclusion among communities. The forum also highlighted the critical role of women in peace and security processes, underscoring their contribution as key stakeholders in peacebuilding initiatives and decision-making spaces.

Other important discussions centered on parenting and family values as foundations for peaceful communities, supporting one another beyond ethnic differences, addressing the root causes and generational drivers of crime, promoting peace education, community sensitization and peer-to-peer awareness initiatives, as well as challenging stereotypes and prejudices that fuel divisions.

The dialogue concluded with a renewed commitment among stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, enhance community engagement, and champion peace celebration initiatives that foster unity, resilience, and harmonious coexistence among all communities in the area.

Together, we continue building bridges of peace, strengthening community resilience, and creating pathways for sustainable coexistence.

Action Life, in collaboration with Frontier under a U.S. Government-supported initiative, successfully convened a two-day high-level Community Engagement Workshop on “Advancing U.S. Private Sector and Defense Economics in Lamu” at Tamarind Tree Hotel, Nairobi.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders from the Lamu County Government, security agencies, Kenya Defence Forces, National Counter Terrorism Centre - Kenya LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, private sector actors and development partners to explore practical pathways for strengthening peace, resilience, investor confidence, and sustainable economic growth in Lamu County.

Discussions focused on the blue economy, Lamu Port, LAPSSET opportunities, civil–military cooperation, and innovative community-led approaches that can transform Lamu into a secure and investment-ready economic frontier. Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening trust between communities and security actors, promoting local ownership, amplifying youth and women-led enterprises, and repositioning Lamu through positive narratives and sustainable investment partnerships.

The workshop also generated forward-looking ideas around fisheries, tourism, logistics, coconut value addition, market access, public awareness campaigns, and locally driven “Defense Economics” models that integrate security and development.
Together, we continue building a peaceful, resilient, and prosperous Lamu where communities, security actors, and investors work hand in hand to unlock opportunity for all.

Interfaith Dialogue Program in Mapenya brought together religious leaders, youth, women, elders, and security actors in a powerful space of reflection, engagement, and collective action towards peaceful coexistence and stronger communities.

Through open and honest conversations, guided reflections, and collaborative discussions, participants explored the transformative role of faith in promoting unity, preventing violence, countering radicalization, and strengthening social cohesion—especially as we move closer to the general elections.

The forum emphasized the importance of:
✨ Responsible and peace-centered leadership
✨ Early conflict prevention and response
✨ Youth empowerment as agents of peace
✨ Women-led peacebuilding initiatives
✨ Strengthening trust and collaboration between communities and security actors

Above all, the dialogue reaffirmed a shared commitment: faith must never be a tool for division, but a bridge for understanding, compassion, unity, and lasting peace.

Together, participants committed to practical interfaith actions, joint peace messaging, and sustained collaboration to ensure communities remain calm, united, and resilient in the face of emerging challenges.

This initiative is being implemented by Act Change Transform in partnership with Action Life Kenya, with support from the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), reaffirming our collective commitment to building peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities.

In Mpeketoni, Lamu County, women rose not just to speak — but to lead, challenge silence, and inspire change.
Through the Program, Action Life convened women leaders from security agencies, probation services, peace committees, civil society organizations, and grassroots communities for a powerful dialogue on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), peacebuilding, justice, and the prevention of violent extremism.
The conversations were courageous, honest, and deeply transformative. Together, participants unpacked the harsh realities of physical, emotional, sexual, and economic violence while gaining practical knowledge on reporting mechanisms, evidence preservation, survivors’ rights, and navigating the criminal justice system. Every discussion centered on dignity, access to justice, and the collective responsibility to protect and support survivors.
The dialogue also amplified the vital role women play in preventing radicalization and violent extremism — as peacebuilders, protectors, mentors, and early warning actors within their communities. By strengthening awareness, collaboration, and collective action, the session reaffirmed a powerful truth: empowered women are essential to building safer, more resilient communities.
This was more than a meeting. It was a movement of courage, solidarity, healing, and action. A space where women strengthened their voices, built networks of support, and renewed their commitment to stand against violence while championing peace, justice, and lasting social change.
Together, we continue to build informed, resilient, and empowered communities where women lead meaningful transformation and shape a future free from violence and fear.

Action Life Kenya, through our Executive Director Dr. Noor Dahir, paid a courtesy call to the Mpeketoni Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Mr. Ahmed Somo, where we held a candid and productive discussion on the ongoing programs and interventions being implemented across Lamu County.

The meeting provided an important platform to strengthen collaboration and partnership around key community priorities, particularly on matters of peace, security, social cohesion, and conflict prevention. Special focus was placed on emerging concerns and tensions affecting the Widho and Pangani areas, and the urgent need for collective action to safeguard peaceful coexistence among communities.

The discussions underscored the importance of government institutions, civil society organizations, local leaders, and community members working together to address the root causes of insecurity, build trust, and promote dialogue-driven solutions that foster unity and resilience.

At Action Life Kenya, we remain committed to supporting sustainable peacebuilding initiatives, empowering communities through inclusive engagement, and creating safe spaces where dialogue, understanding, and cooperation can thrive. We believe that lasting peace can only be achieved through collaboration, early intervention, and shared responsibility.

We appreciate the continued support and leadership of the Mpeketoni DCC office and reaffirm our commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to build stronger, safer, and more peaceful communities across Lamu County.
