Select custodians who care for historic Qur’ans in Lamu are receiving calendars and posters printed with images of their own manuscripts for them to sell as souvenirs and raise funds while keeping their Qur’ans safely at home.

The calendars and posters are produced and donated free of charge with the support of and delivered directly to custodians.

Why does this matter?
For centuries, Qur’ans across Africa have been handwritten using local inks, leather bindings, and wooden storage chests. These manuscripts are not just religious texts — they are family legacies passed down through generations. Today, many custodians face pressure to sell them to collectors due to financial need.

Our approach offers another path:

We’ve repaired the flying beam to provide essential structural support and open up the prayer space safely.
New ceiling boards are up! We’ve moved from old, damaged surfaces to a clean, bright ceiling board.The Birika (Women’s Section)Freshly renovated and ready to serve,ensuring dignity and ease for wudhu.The Pillars, Reinforced from the ground up to support the heavy lifting above.
