HAPPY MADARAKA DAY

Today, we proudly join millions of Kenyans in commemorating Madaraka Day, a historic moment that symbolizes our nation's journey towards self-governance, freedom, dignity, and collective responsibility.

As we celebrate the sacrifices of those who paved the way for our independence and the progress we continue to make as a nation, we are reminded that true freedom goes beyond political liberation. It means empowering communities, protecting human rights, preserving our environment, promoting health and dignity, and ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

At Eco Dada, we believe that sustainable development begins with empowered communities. Through our commitment to menstrual dignity, environmental conservation, women's empowerment, and community engagement, we continue to play our part in building a healthier, greener, and more inclusive Kenya.

This Madaraka Day, let us renew our commitment to creating positive change in our communities. Let us embrace the values of unity, responsibility, resilience, and service to others. Together, we can protect our environment, uplift vulnerable populations, champion dignity for all, and inspire future generations to build a nation we are proud to call home.

- Freedom to Dream.
- Freedom to Lead.
- Freedom to Protect Our Environment.
- Freedom to Live with Dignity.

As we celebrate this special day, may we remember that the future of Kenya lies in our collective actions today. Every act of kindness, every effort towards sustainability, and every voice advocating for justice and equality contributes to a stronger and more prosperous nation.

Happy Madaraka Day, Kenya ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช

Today, as we joined the world in commemorating International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, Eco Dada joined LAMU PRESS CBO reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the dignity, health, education, and empowerment of girls through meaningful community action.

We were honored to conduct a Dignity Pack Distribution at Mokowe Secondary School, reaching approximately 160 girls with essential menstrual hygiene supplies and vital menstrual health information. While the dignity packs provide practical support, this initiative represents something far greaterโ€”it is a commitment to ensuring that no girl is forced to miss school, lose confidence, or compromise her future because of menstruation.

For many girls, especially those in undeserved and marginalized communities, period poverty remains a significant barrier to education and personal development. Lack of access to sanitary products, accurate information, and supportive environments often leads to absenteeism, stigma, and diminished self-esteem. Through this initiative, we are working to break these barriers by promoting menstrual health awareness, improving school attendance, and empowering girls to embrace their potential with confidence and pride.

Menstruation is a natural biological process, yet many girls continue to face shame, discrimination, and misinformation. It is time to challenge harmful stereotypes, normalize conversations around menstrual health, and create safe spaces where girls feel supported, respected, and informed.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) for their generous support and partnership in making this initiative possible. Your contribution is helping to transform lives, restore dignity, and build a future where every girl can manage her menstruation safely, confidently, and without barriers.

Together, let us continue championing menstrual health not as a privilege, but as a matter of dignity, equality, education, and human rights.

Every pad distributed today is more than a productโ€”it is a symbol of hope, confidence, opportunity, and a brighter future for every girl.

At Eco Dada, we believe that menstruation should never stand in the way of a girlโ€™s education, confidence, dignity, or dreams.

Today, we celebrate the strength of every girl and woman while continuing our mission to break the silence, end period stigma, and ensure access to safe and affordable menstrual hygiene products for all.

Through education, awareness, and distribution of sanitary pads in schools and communities, we are restoring confidence, protecting health, and empowering girls to thrive without fear or shame.

Because menstrual hygiene is not a privilege โ€” it is a basic human right.

Together, letโ€™s create a world where every girl can learn, lead, and live with dignity every single day.

Protecting Our Ocean, Preserving Our Future

As we prepare to celebrate the blessed occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, Eco Dada, in partnership with Lamu Press CBO, Lamu Municipality, and the Matondoni Tarazak Women Group, proudly joined hands in a successful Beach Clean-Up Exercise at Matondoni Village, demonstrating our shared commitment to environmental conservation, public health, and sustainable coastal development.

This initiative was more than just a clean-up activityโ€”it was a powerful community action aimed at protecting our oceans, safeguarding marine biodiversity, and promoting healthier living environments for present and future generations.

Plastic pollution and poor waste disposal continue to pose serious threats to our coastal ecosystems. Marine debris destroys critical fish breeding grounds, endangers marine life, and undermines the Blue Economy that supports thousands of livelihoods along Kenya's coast. Every plastic bottle, discarded container, and piece of waste collected today represented a step toward restoring the health and beauty of our shoreline.

Beyond environmental conservation, the exercise also addressed an urgent public health concern. Illegal dumping sites and unmanaged waste create ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases. Lamu County continues to face significant challenges from malaria, dengue fever, and chikungunya, diseases that affect families, strain healthcare systems, and hinder community development. By clearing waste and eliminating stagnant water collection points, we are helping reduce mosquito breeding habitats and contributing to a healthier and safer community.

As we reflect on the values of sacrifice, responsibility, and stewardship that accompany Eid-ul-Adha, we are reminded that caring for our environment is a collective duty. Protecting our oceans, beaches, and public spaces is not only an environmental obligation but also an investment in the well-being, prosperity, and resilience of our communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all volunteers, community members, partners, and stakeholders who dedicated their time and effort to make this initiative a success. Together, we are proving that small actions, when united by a common purpose, can create lasting impact.

Cleaner Beaches. Healthier Oceans. Stronger Communities.

- Protect Marine Life
- Preserve Fish Breeding Grounds
- Sustain the Blue Economy
- Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites
- Build a Cleaner and Healthier Future for All

Trees are not just part of our ecosystem; they are the lifeline of our planet and the foundation of a sustainable future.

Eco Dada was proud to participate in the Mangrove Tree Planting Exercise at Mtangawanda Conservancy, an impactful initiative organized by Northern Rangelands Trust. This exercise goes far beyond planting treesโ€”it is a commitment to environmental restoration, climate resilience, and safeguarding future generations.

Mangrove forests are among the most valuable ecosystems in the world. They serve as natural barriers against coastal erosion, protect marine biodiversity, support livelihoods, and most importantly, play a critical role in mitigating the effects of climate change by absorbing and storing significant amounts of carbon, commonly referred to as blue carbon. Their contribution is increasingly important in global conversations around carbon credits and sustainable environmental financing.

Every mangrove planted today is a step toward reducing carbon emissions, restoring our coastal ecosystems, strengthening climate adaptation efforts, and creating opportunities within the carbon economy.

Together, we are not only planting trees; we are planting hope, resilience, and a greener future for our communities and our planet.

Eco Dada was privileged to attend and support the Girlsโ€™ Football Match held at Muungano Tiger Ground, Mpeketoni โ€” a powerful initiative that used sports as a tool for promoting peace, unity, and empowerment among young girls and the community.

The match was more than just football; it created a safe and inclusive space where girls could openly engage in meaningful dialogue on the challenges they continue to face in society. Critical discussions were held around early teenage pregnancies and their contribution to school dropouts among girls, emphasizing the need for collective action to safeguard education and create opportunities for every girl to thrive.

The forum also provided an important platform to discuss Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), highlighting the evolving risks that come with the rapid growth of technology and Artificial Intelligence. While technology and AI continue to drive progress and innovation, they are also increasingly being misused through cyberbullying, digital harassment, online exploitation, and other digital threats affecting girls and young women.

As we embrace technological advancement, it is equally important to strengthen awareness, prevention, and mitigation measures to ensure digital spaces remain safe and empowering for all.

We were honored to be accompanied by H.E. Nahida Kassim, President of Lamu, whose presence reaffirmed the commitment towards championing peace, girlsโ€™ empowerment, education, and the protection of young women from all forms of violence.

Together, through sports, dialogue, and collective action, we continue building a future where every girl is safe, empowered, educated, and given equal opportunities to succeed.
