Today we participated in The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Kenya 2026 for the coast region hosted by WeWorld and partners. . The event aimed at engaging young people in climate discussions and policy-making in preparation for COP31.

Key issues were highlighted from climate adaptation to climate change as a risk multiplier to armed conflict and violence. A key highlight from the conversations was around climate change disparities for women and girls who are more vulnerable during emergencies due to underlying gender inequalities.

This reinforces what we Young Women At The Table do in advancing gender equity not only in the climate sector but in governance, usage of natural resources, budget allocations to ensure women meaningfully participate in decision making spaces.
We look forward to seeing some of the recommendations especially on climate financing for grassroots organizations being discussed in COP31 and measures being put in place to ensure sustainable development.

🤱 Every mother deserves the support to breastfeed with dignity.

As we mark World Breastfeeding Week, we join the global call to create environments where breastfeeding is protected, promoted and supported.
Breastfeeding is more than nutrition, it is a foundation for lifelong health, stronger families and healthier communities. Yet many mothers continue to face barriers at home, in workplaces and in public spaces.

This week, let's commit to:
💜 Supporting breastfeeding mothers without judgment
💜 Advocating for family-friendly and workplace policies
💜 Raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for both mother and child.

Together, let's make breastfeeding the norm—not the exception.

We are honoured to have participated in the two-day Capacity-Building Workshop on Promoting Local Youth Actions to Advance SDG Localization and Youth Well-being, convened by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in collaboration with local and international partners.

The workshop brought together young leaders and development practitioners to strengthen capacities, exchange experiences and explore practical approaches to advancing youth well-being while accelerating the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

One of the highlights for our team was a session on Mindful Photography, which challenged us to think critically about ethical storytelling and the power of visual narratives in driving social change. We also gained valuable insights into the AU-EU Youth Lab grants, learning about opportunities available to youth-led organizations and practical strategies for accessing funding that supports community-driven initiatives.

At YWT, we believe that meaningful youth participation goes beyond representation, it requires building the knowledge, skills and networks that enable young people, especially young women, to influence policies and lead sustainable solutions in their communities.

We appreciate UN DESA and all partners for creating this enriching learning platform, and we look forward to applying the lessons gained to strengthen our advocacy and community-led initiatives.

Throwing it back to our My First Period Story Circle, a safe space where young women came together to share their first menstruation experiences, learn from one another and have honest conversations about menstrual health.

The stories shared highlighted why open conversations around menstruation matter. Every experience was different, but they all pointed to the need for accurate information, supportive environments and an end to period stigma.

Creating spaces like these is a reminder that menstrual health is not just a personal issue—it's about dignity, confidence and ensuring that no girl feels alone.

Imagine a community where young women are given the space, skills and the confidence to speak into public decision-making🤗

Tulinde Future Yetu Initiative is making this a reality through the Young Women Civic Engagement Bootcamp under the INUA-IG Project. We had the privilege of engaging fellow young women in conversations about public finance, county budgeting and advocacy.

What stood out wasn't just the discussions but the shift in perspective. We moved from identifying everyday challenges to proposing practical, budget-linked solutions and collectively developing recommendations for decision-makers.

Too often, young women are consulted after decisions have already been made. This bootcamp reaffirmed that when we are engaged early, equipped with knowledge and provided with safe spaces to contribute, we become active partners in shaping more responsive and inclusive governance.

At Young Women at the Table, we remain committed to ensuring that young women's voices are not only heard but reflected in policies, plans and budgets that affect their lives.

Did you know that Kwale County enacted the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Prevention and Protection Act in 2023?

While this was a significant milestone, laws only create impact when they are fully implemented.

As a member of the Kwale County Community of practice, we joined fellow CSOs and County duty bearers in a constructive dialogue to assess the implementation status of the Act and identify practical solutions to strengthen survivor protection and access to justice.

The dialogue focused on three key advocacy priorities:
✅ Operationalization of safe houses for survivors.
✅ Budget allocation for a County Forensic Laboratory for SGBV cases
✅ Fast-tracking the adoption of the Gender and Social Inclusion Policy.
We are encouraged by the commitments made by both the County Executive and the County Assembly to strengthen implementation, oversight and resource allocation for SGBV response.
For us, advocacy goes beyond policy conversations, it's about ensuring that every woman, girl, child and vulnerable person can access protection, justice and quality support services when they need them.

Together, let's continue championing accountability and ensuring that the Kwale County Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Protection Act, 2023 delivers meaningful change for Kwale.

We are proud to celebrate our budget advocate, Mariam Said, Cha Rosy for being selected as part of the INUA-IG Project under the Tulinde Future Yetu Initiative as a TOT.

The project seeks to strengthen digitally enabled inclusive governance by empowering young people to meaningfully participate in civic processes, public dialogue and accountability spaces in Kwale County, with a special focus on young women and youth.

Mariam recently attended a two-day training covering budget-making processes, social accountability and advocacy. The sessions enhanced their' understanding of the budget cycle, citizen oversight, accountability tools and mobilising support for advocacy and civic engagement.

We look forward to her journey of growth as she continues to sharpen her knowledge and skills and to amplify young women's voices within Matuga sub-county and beyond👏🏿👏🏿
