Community resilience begins with empowered communities. 🌍

Over the past two days, CBOs participated in a Learning and Capacity Strengthening Forum on Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) and Climate Adaptation, convened by the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP.
The forum strengthened participants’ knowledge and practical skills in disaster preparedness, risk assessment, early warning systems, community-led solutions, and accountability mechanisms.
A key focus was the role of MEAL in strengthening transparency, learning, and sustainability in CBDRM initiatives.
As climate risks intensify, empowering communities with knowledge, leadership, and inclusive participation remains key to building resilient and adaptive communities.
Children Empowerment and Development - CHED Foundation c.b.o is grateful to UNDP for this timely and impactful learning opportunity.

The Performance Review Workshop reaffirmed the vital role of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in advancing locally led climate action. CSOs strengthen transparency, accountability, public participation, and community awareness while supporting oversight of climate investments.

As Kenya prepares for Phase II, stronger partnerships between county governments, Ward Climate Change Planning Committees (WCCPCs), and CSOs will be key to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities.

CHED had the privilege to join the Kwale County Community of practice close-up meeting, first as a proud member, and secondly as the Kwale County CSO Focal Point under the FLLoCA program.

The session offered a valuable opportunity for members to reflect on the shrinking donor funding landscape and explore alternative, sustainable approaches to ensure that our civic work continues making a positive impact in communities.

We also reviewed what worked well, the challenges faced, and the opportunities for growth across different sectors, engaging meaningfully with various departments within the Kwale County Government.

One of the key highlights during the thematic discussions was the (Financing Locally Led Climate Action) conversation under the Climate Change thematic group. Members were sensitised on the guidelines, financing model, and how communities can ensure value for money and strong Return on Investment in priority areas such as agriculture, environment, and water. Strengthening partnerships for long-term sustainability remained central to the discussion.

A big thank you to the Secretariat and all stakeholders who took part and contributed to the success of this event.
As members of the , we remain committed to advancing impactful, community-driven development and climate action.

When women lead, climate action strengthens.
Let’s amplify their voices. Let’s prioritize gender-responsive climate policies💪

Children Empowerment and Development - CHED Foundation c.b.o was pleased to attend a meeting convened by Women Human Rights Defenders Hub- The Hub bringing together Women Environmental Defenders (WEDs) and Women Environmental Defender Organizations (WEDOs) to examine how gender influences climate change policies — and the critical role women play in shaping climate solutions.

During the session, a survey conducted in Kwale, Nairobi, and Kitui was unveiled, highlighting how current climate policies impact women and women-led organizations. Here are the findings:

👉 Gender integration in climate change policies is still lagging across many counties.
This gap continues to limit women’s involvement, participation, and leadership in climate adaptation and response efforts.

This serves as a wake-up call to county governments across Kenya to recognize, support, and collaborate with WEDs and WEDOs, whose work is essential in building climate-resilient communities.
