Meet David Sisungo Ali 🌱

At our Farmers Training Centre (FTC), David is passionate about helping farmers build a more sustainable future. He works alongside the team to train farmers in organic farming practices, leads practical demonstrations, provides extension services, and supports our One Million Trees campaign.

One of the highlights of his work is inspiring the next generation. In this photo, David is leading an Environmental Conservation Club session, teaching young people about tree nursery management and the importance of protecting our environment. By equipping children with practical knowledge, we are planting the seeds for a greener, more sustainable future.

When asked about his biggest concern in his profession, David says it is the growing challenge of climate change, making his work more important than ever. Despite these challenges, he remains optimistic. He believes that through the continued work of the Mount Elgon Trust, farmers will increase their incomes, adopt more productive and sustainable farming practices, and improve their livelihoods for generations to come.

On the 5th of June *Andersen Vocational Training Centre* (AVTC) joined the rest of the world through a tree-planting exercise aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainability.

The activity was led by the *Dean of Administration and Environment, Mr. Mulati,* with the support and guidance of the Principal. We were also honored to host delegates from the Mt. Elgon Orchard (MEO) who joined staff and trainees in the exercise.

As part of the day’s activities, more than 100 trees were planted within the institution courtesy of MEO to reaffirm AVTC’s commitment to creating a greener and healthier environment for future generations.

AVTC remains dedicated to nurturing environmental stewardship among trainees and the wider community through practical conservation initiatives.

Seen from above, our farm stretches between the Suam River and the Kitale–Endebess road, right on the border of Kenya and Uganda. A place where agriculture meets nature at the edge of two nations. 🌍🌱

Established in 1921 by Bob’s grandfather, the land has grown into a unique mix of agriculture, conservation, and community.

🌹 45 hectares of roses
🥑 120 hectares of avocados
🌳 150 hectares of protected indigenous forest
🐄 Farmland, rivers and canals, homes, roads, and community areas in between

The farm has many reservoirs for sustainable water management, multiple solar fields, and a hydro-dam for green energy, an airstrip, and many tree plantations for sustainable wood production — plantations that also serve as habitats for wildlife.

Slide 2 zoom-in: Across the road from the farm lies Mount Elgon Trust, officially established in 2005 — a foundation focused on supporting local communities through education, healthcare, conservation, and development projects. Mount Elgon Trust supports multiple schools with over 4,000 students, a hospital treating 24,000 patients annually, a farmers’ training centre training 900 farmers each year, many community outreach projects, and an orphanage.

From this aerial view, you can truly see the connection between nature, farming, history, and people. Over a century later, this land continues to grow with purpose.

Happy International Women’s Day! 💜

Our Girl Empowerment Program (GEP) supports vulnerable young women, young mothers, and girls of all ages. Yesterday, we celebrated International Women’s Day with a special program tailored to their needs.

GEP is a platform dedicated to empowering girls and young women by providing information, support, and opportunities for self-development. Through this program, we aim to strengthen their confidence, encourage growth, and help them build brighter futures.

Together, we continue to uplift, support, and empower the next generation of strong women. ✨

GIRL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM - Meet our girl empowerment team: Hanneke, Eunice, June and Rose!

The team is proud to announce that last year our mentorship programs reached over 3000 young girls! In addition we have 10 young teenmothers groups in nine regions that we support, organised scholarships and successful observance days. The team focuses on empowerment through awareness campaigns and mentorship programs such as menstrual health, family planning, self love, boundaries, education and the future, positive parenting, first 1000 days, entrepreneurship and skills, and so on.

We are very proud of the team and their accomplishment and want to thank partner organisations, schools and guest-speakers for their collaboration for a very successful 2025!

Next year the team will add boy empowerment program and special needs program to their curriculum.

The team is always looking for funding for scholarship, Afripads and funding to carry out more activities to reach more girls. If you are interested in providing funding, please DM us!
