The Silent Wounds of Childhood Sexual Trauma — and Why I Refuse to Stay Quiet

I still remember the first time I spoke publicly about childhood sexual trauma. My voice shook. My palms sweated. I wasn’t sure if the room would go quiet in discomfort, or if anyone would even believe me.

But as I spoke, I saw something I will never forget—eyes filling with tears, heads nodding slowly, and women leaning in as if they had been waiting for someone to put words to the pain they had carried for years.

Childhood sexual trauma is not “just something that happened in the past.”
It is something that can follow you into every stage of life:

The anxiety that creeps in during a work meeting.

The mistrust that makes relationships feel like walking through fire.

The guilt that whispers “It was your fault”—even when it never was.

The nightmares, the chronic pain, the silence.

In my work at Unbroken Spirits, I meet survivors who have carried these wounds in secret for decades. Some were never believed. Others were told to “forgive and forget” long before they even had the chance to process the trauma.

This is why I speak, and why I write. Because silence protects the abuser, not the survivor. And because I believe the church, families, and communities can be a place of refuge instead of another source of harm.

Healing is not quick. It is not linear. But it is possible. I have seen it—one conversation, one safe space, one brave step at a time.

If you are reading this and you are a survivor, hear me:
You are not broken.
You are not to blame.
Your story matters.

And if you are not a survivor, you still have a role to play—by listening, believing, and standing with those who have lived through what no child should ever face.

We can end the silence. We can stop the cycle. We can build a world where no child’s innocence is stolen, and no survivor is left to heal alone.

I refuse to stay quiet. Will you join me?

“I’ve never told anyone this before…”
That’s how she started on Day 1.

She came in quiet. Eyes low. Shoulders heavy.
But by Week 10, she stood tall.
Her voice no longer shaking.
Her story no longer a secret.
Her pain—transformed into purpose.

At Unbroken Spirits, we don’t just run a program.
We witness 'resurrections.'
Survivors walk in carrying years—sometimes decades—of silence.
But slowly, gently, something shifts.
Words come.
Tears fall.
Shame lifts.
And healing begins.

🟣 We create sacred, safe spaces where stories are honored.
🟡 We walk with survivors through their darkest valleys.
🟢 We watch them rise—with courage, faith, and fierce freedom.

This is what it means to be part of the Unbroken Spirits tribe.
We don’t rush healing. We don’t fix people.
We walk with them, step by step.

Let's delve a bit deeper into trauma and the journey of healing....

Some wounds are invisible, but they shape how we see the world.

Trauma doesn’t announce itself loudly — it settles quietly in the corners of our hearts, changing how we trust, how we love, and even how we see ourselves. For years, I lived in survival mode, not realizing how much pain was still writing the script of my life.

But healing is possible.
It is not instant. It is not linear. It is a sacred, painful, beautiful journey — one where God meets us, carries us, and slowly rewrites our story with tenderness and truth.

I share my story not because it’s easy, but because someone else might need to know:
You are not alone. You are not crazy. And you are not beyond healing.

Scars do not mean you are broken. They mean you survived. And survival can turn into freedom.

One step at a time. One breath at a time. One brave “yes” to healing at a time. 💛
