Riparian Land. Right Decision. Wrong Ex*****on.
Clearing settlements along the Nairobi River was necessary not optional. Riparian land is a flood zone, a health hazard, a public safety risk. Every rainy season, lives are lost. Property is swept away. Protecting people from that isn't a favour from government it's a responsibility.
But how you do something matters as much as why.
What happened at Gikombaa wasn't enforcement. It was erasure. No adequate notice. No relocation plan. No alternative livelihood support. Families woke up to bulldozers. Traders lost stock worth years of savings before the sun was high.
The cause was right. The ex*****on was cruel.
A government serious about urban development would have paired enforcement with a resettlement programme affordable stalls, transitional shelter, compensation for real losses. What we got instead was the optics of action without the substance of care.
SpeakLife Africa stands here clearly:
We support clearing riparian land. And we demand that the people displaced are treated as citizens not obstacles.
Those two positions are not in conflict. They never were.
A nation that builds without its people is not building for them.

What if the digital space was built for you,
not used against you?
What if young women could speak and not shrink?
What if HRDs could organize and not fear?
What if the internet connected us instead of cutting us?
That's not wishful thinking. That's a mandate.
And Kaa Radaa is how we build it.
We see a Kisumu where:
βœ… Youth are seen, safe, and powerful
βœ… Digital spaces create they don't destroy
βœ… Every voice carries weight in Kenya's future
This isn't charity. This is justice.
This is yours. This is kaa radaa.
Show up. Speak up. Build with us. πŸ’™??
