More than 600 bills restricting LGBTQ+ rights have been introduced across U.S. states. These measures most severely affect the transgender community: bans on medical care, participation in sports, censorship in education, and even restrictions on displaying flags or symbols. Utah was the first state to prohibit LGBTQ+ flags in schools and government buildings, and soon more than a dozen states followed. Human rights advocates warn that the scale of these attacks is unprecedented and threatens the safety of millions. Conservative politicians, however, see the situation differently. They argue that the new measures protect “traditional values” and parental rights. Bans on gender transition for minors are described as “shielding children from irreversible decisions,” while school restrictions are framed as maintaining a “neutral” educational environment.
