This week, we are visiting schools we interacted with during the shamiri intervention program.

We had an incredible visit to Joel Omino Secondary School and Kisumu Boys National School, where we engaged with school leadership and guidance & counseling teams. These visits focused on disseminating key findings from the Shamiri intervention report, highlighting gaps in mental health awareness, resources, and support systems in schools.
It was inspiring to hear firsthand how the Shamiri intervention is making a meaningful difference improving student discipline and sparking a stronger interest in Mathematics, reflected in the impressive 2025 end-of-year results and continued strong performance.
The School also expressed enthusiasm about extending the program to newly admitted Grade 10 students, ensuring even more learners benefit from this impact.

This week, our team paid a solidarity visit to Ngina Children’s Home in Kisumu County following the recent devastating fire that destroyed the facility. During the visit, we delivered donations and spent meaningful time with the children and staff.

It was a valuable opportunity to listen, learn, and witness firsthand the remarkable work being done to care for the children and nurture their resilience during this challenging time.

The visit also gave us deeper insight into the home’s operations and opened conversations around potential future collaboration to strengthen community support systems. We are grateful for the warm welcome and truly inspired by the dedication and compassion of everyone involved.

“It’s easy to label young people as ‘troublemakers,’ but the reality is that the weight of unemployment often masks our true potential as architects of peace.” - Carolyne Anyango Opiyo
Kolwa West Ward

Are youth the fuel for conflict, or the architects of peace? In this Kisumu East Dialogue, Carolyne unpacks the complex reality facing young people today. She moves beyond the stereotypes to show how youth in Kolwa West are driving peace initiatives despite systemic barriers and economic pressures.

With elections on the horizon, the Kenyan youth aren't just the majority; they are the decision-makers. It’s time to move from the sidelines to the center of the conversation.

As we approach , today Women Volunteers for Peace (WOVOP) proudly joined the Kisumu County Government, partners, and community members in Kisumu to commemorate International Women’s Day under the theme: “Rights, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls.”

Through a solidarity walk and a panel discussion held at Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall, we continue to champion spaces where women’s voices are heard, their rights upheld, and their leadership celebrated. 💜

Women’s issues are human issues, and coming together to address them collectively is both powerful and necessary. Today was a true testament to that shared commitment.
