We continue to create safe and supportive spaces for our focus populations to connect, heal, and rebuild hope.

Last week, we held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with People Who Use Alcohol, bringing together individuals on different stages of recovery and sobriety through the Alcoholics Anonymous support approach.

The discussion provided an opportunity to openly reflect on the challenges surrounding substance use, mental wellness, treatment support, and the growing concerns around continuity of community-based services during this uncertain funding period.

Through peer support, shared experiences, and community dialogue, we continue to strengthen resilience, encourage recovery journeys, and reaffirm that no one should walk the path to healing alone.

During this period of funding shifts, concerns around the continuity of HIV programming and the sustainability of ART access continue to raise important questions, especially among our beneficiaries in informal settlements, where affordability remains a key concern.

In response, we are continuing our series of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with People Living with HIV (PLHIVs). These conversations provide a safe space to address emerging anxieties, share accurate information, and reinforce the importance of treatment adherence.

Our goal is clear: to strengthen confidence in care, support informed decision-making, and ensure that no one is left behind.

We remain committed to walking alongside our beneficiaries and all our focus populations, sustaining access, building trust, and promoting healthier, more resilient communities.

As we close our books for the year, we take time to reflect on the milestones and impact of TJ’s interventions in 2025.
One of the highlights was our engagement during World AIDS Day, which provided a valuable platform for cross-learning, idea exchange, and the distribution of essential commodities to our communities.
We also made significant progress in innovation with the development of a prototype for the MUTU Application, a crowdsourced digital platform designed to capture real-time incidents of stigma and discrimination. Once fully developed, this tool has the potential to be a game changer in evidence generation, advocacy, and accountability.
In addition, we advanced our exchange program, which will support the successful implementation of the Nourish+Health Project. This initiative aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of sexual and gender minority (SGM) persons living with HIV in Kisumu’s informal settlements through integrated interventions in nutrition, genetics, and inclusive healthcare.
Over time, TJ has established a strong research foundation through the implementation of community-based research. Evidence generated from this work has continuously informed and strengthened our programming and interventions. This year, we are particularly proud that TJ is a key partner in the ongoing research literacy capacity-building under the Imarisha Initiative, which seeks to train over 46 SGM organizations.
As we close our offices for the festive season, we look ahead with optimism and renewed energy toward 2026. Our offices will remain closed until 8 January 2026, after which we will resume operations refreshed, re-energized, and ready to deepen our impact.

Yesterday, Tugutuke Jamii Organization proudly joined the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day at Kisian Primary School. It was an incredible day of learning, sharing, and reaffirming our commitment to ending stigma and advancing the health and rights of marginalized communities.

We were honored to welcome the Director of Public Health and Sanitation to our stand, where we held a meaningful discussion on our ongoing programming, particularly our HIV prevention initiatives, community outreach efforts, and support for sexual and gender minorities within Kisumu’s informal settlements.

Throughout the day, our team actively participated in various activities aimed at promoting awareness, strengthening partnerships, and encouraging communities to access lifesaving information and services.

As we reflect on this year’s theme, we remain committed to:

Expanding access to inclusive HIV/SRHR services
Championing human rights and dignity for all
Empowering communities with knowledge, resources, and support
Fighting stigma and discrimination in all its forms

Together, we can build a healthier, more inclusive, and stigma-free society.

We are guided not only by our goals and mission, but also by the meaningful journey we share, the soulful journey. Despite ongoing challenges, we remain resilient and united by a collective spirit of thriving even amid turbulence. This moment calls us to pause, reflect, and re-strategize. As the TJ team, we continue to grow bolder and stronger, with our commitment unwavering.
