Out of a small act of kindness, the home has turned into a registered charity helping over 85 vulnerable children in the market town of Rabuor in Kisumu, Western Kenya. It all began in the early 2008s. Philip and his wife Jane had a mobile food business, selling fresh juice and fruit salad in Kisumu City. Philip was also a church minister. At the end of each day, Jane Would give give out any left
over food to the local street children. However, she was unable to meet the demands of the street children in gradually the children who didn't get any food started to ask for money instead. Unable to meet the demands of a Kisumu street children, Jane decided to bring back the remaining food to their home in Rabuor and share it with the local poor and orphan children there. The children would gather under a tree in the church compound to get Jane's food. Some people the woman in the village would help the children to gather firewood to warm the food. This was the start start of Pastor Philip and Jane's relationship with the abandoned children and orphans. HIV & AIDs. Most of the children that came to the compound had lost their parents to AIDs and often left in the care and guardians or relatives whom they did not really know. The children often had health issues and their families were too poor to provide them with regular meals or support their ongoing education. As more children came to the compound for their meals we decided to employ two local women to supervise the children and teach them basic numeral and writing skills. This was now the beginning of the children stay with the Philip 's in their family compound and home. The first twenty children were taken in to stay with the family The rest followed as the demands grew. The Mercy Children Home & Orphanage appeals to any good, free hearted, well _wishers to partner with us in bringing up the children to be responsible citizens of this world. Food provisions, clothing, tuition fees are our main areas of concern presently. A SERVICE TO HUMANITY IS A SERVICE TO GOD.
