Last week we hosted a two day strategic meeting to review and propose amendments to Homabay County Alcoholics Drinks Act 2015.

The meeting was attended by County Government Of Homa Bay Executives led by CECM for trade, Chief officers, Directors, and County Attorney. The County Assembly of Homabay led by the Leader of Majority, Chair for trade, Chair for Health among other members. Civil Society organizations that included the International Institute for Legislative Affairs and SCAD Kenya . From the national government we had Nacada Kenya and also a representative from Kisumu County alcoholic drinks directorate. Our team was led by our Director Ishmael Shem,Board Chairperson Hon Benter Ndeda, Our Legal Advisor Joan Netto and Hon Emily Oginga (Board Member)

The meeting suggested amendments to the act to enable it to regulate alcohol consumption, protect underage children, support Community education on matters of alcohol and substance use, promote research, establish county government rehabilitation centers and involvement of Civil society organizations in conducting education to institutions of learning and communities.

The engagement continues as the county finalizes the bill, moves the process to the assembly and conducts public participation.

As we mark   we urge all employees to provide training and education about substance use to workers.
