We have been working on this quietly and we can now now proudly reveal that LAKEHUB's Zone01Kisumu and Technopolis Development Authority (formerly Konza Technopolis Development Authority) Authority (KoTDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance AI and digital-skills development in Kenya.

Our partnership, fine-tuned over the past few months, will focus on co-developing curricula that combine AI literacy and digital skills with life skills and behavioural competencies.

Training will be delivered physically and virtually through Jitume Digital Media Factory Hubs, leveraging Zone01 Kisumu's peer-to-peer learning, hands-on exercises and applied projects.

Our collaboration will also include:
✅ Certification and recognition of learning outcomes
✅ Training-of-trainers programmes
✅ Bootcamps, hackathons and innovation challenges
✅ Access to computing infrastructure, connectivity and devices
✅ Integration of mentorship, incubation and innovation activities

LakeHub Foundation was represented at the signing by our Co-Executive Directors, Dorcas Owinoh and Caleb Nyoiro. Bellah Oyucho and MC DAISY added specialized expertise to the delegation from Kisumu. KoTDA was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, John Paul Okwiri, OGW, MBA, MCIPS, and Josephine Ndambuki, Chief Manager for Business Development and Innovation, and key staff who'll work on the implementation of the agreemnet.

This partnership marks an important step towards expanding access to future-ready skills and creating stronger pathways for young people to participate meaningfully in Africa’s growing digital and AI economy.

BUILD WITH GOOGLE AI AT ZONE01 KISUMU

Zone01Kisumu is hosting the event, bringing together developers and tech enthusiasts to explore how AI is changing the way we build software.

Our apprentices are part of the experience, getting hands-on exposure to the latest developments across the Google Developer Ecosystem, from Gemini and multimodal AI to agentic web tools and AI infrastructure.

A key focus is the shift toward agentic AI, moving beyond single prompts and isolated AI features to systems where multiple specialised AI agents can work together, each with its own tools, context, instructions and responsibilities.

Participants also explored Google Agent Studio, which demonstrates multi-agent architecture, and Google Antigravity, an agent-first development platform designed to give AI agents access to the code, tools, permissions and context they need to carry out complex development tasks.

AI is no longer just an add-on to software. It is becoming an integral layer of the development stack.

For our apprentices, it’s an opportunity to learn, experiment and see where modern software development is headed.

AI & SOFTWARE ENGINEERING MINI-CONFERENCE

We will be exploring how AI is changing the way we learn, build, debug, and approach software development.

The session will combine practical insights and real developer experiences, including a session on how an experienced developer would approach software development with AI if they were starting today.

We will also explore practical ways of using AI as part of the software development workflow, followed by a hands-on session where participants will get to build with AI.

The focus is not simply on using AI to generate code, but on understanding how developers can use AI effectively while continuing to develop the problem-solving, engineering, and critical-thinking skills that matter.

AI is changing software development. We’re exploring what that means for the way we learn and build.

Earlier today, our Co-Executive Director, Dorcas Patricia Owinoh joined a strategic meeting with the County Government of Kisumu, DigiKen, UN Women and UN Environment Programme to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration and greater impact for young women in our community.

The conversation focused on strengthening digital inclusion for women and small businesses, as well as how we can take advantage of new tech to create sustainable opportunities.

So far, our collaboration with Digiken has seen over 500 young women get free training on critical digital skills that have led to meaningful progress in their personal lives and business pursuits.

A teacher affects eternity. A teacher moulds the future.

But how do we ensure the teachers themselves are well prepared and skilled enough on the tools and technologies that will define the future?

We were delighted to host the 2026 Tufunzeni Teachers Summit which brought together educators from all over the country to Kisumu to learn, network, innovate, and grow into even better educators for our future leaders.

As part of the day's program, we introduce the educators to some of our cutting-edge AI-based learning programs, including our brand-new AI Starter Piscine!

Check out 👉 Tufunzeni for in-depth details of the day's varied sessions.
