Community Dialogue on Security & Peace – Usoma Village, Kisumu West
Yesterday, Women Volunteers for Peace successfully organized a powerful community dialogue with youths in Usoma Village, Kisumu West Sub-County, focusing on security, peace, and social cohesion. The forum brought together young people to openly discuss the challenges affecting their community, including insecurity, crime, drug abuse, and the breakdown of peaceful coexistence.
The dialogue provided a safe and inclusive space for youths to share their lived experiences, voice their concerns, and propose practical solutions toward building a safer and more united community. It was inspiring to witness the level of honesty, engagement, and commitment shown by the young people as they reflected on their role in promoting peace and preventing violence.
A key outcome of the discussion was the recognition that lasting peace begins with individual responsibility, positive peer influence, and strong community collaboration. The youths expressed a strong desire for mentorship, meaningful engagement, and opportunities that can steer them away from crime and destructive behaviors.
We commend Women Volunteers for Peace for their leadership and dedication to grassroots peacebuilding. This initiative is a true demonstration of how community-driven efforts can ignite hope, empower young people, and lay a strong foundation for sustainable peace in Kisumu West.
Peace is not just the absence of conflict—it is the presence of dialogue, understanding, and opportunity.
