Our economy has been overly extractive & exploitative for far too long harming the environment and interfering with ecosystems and livelihoods. Time is ripe to think more about regenerative development to restore our biodiversity and encourage food sovereignty.

Let a million seeds blossom! We are building a global artistic and civic movement for seed sovereignty, biodiversity, and cultural regeneration. Across the world, seeds are quietly disappearing from living relationships. Seed systems have become increasingly centralized, regulated, and commercialize...

On Wednesday, March 11, we were honoured to join Usonaki SJC and comrades from the social justice movement in their convening with the fisher folk at Ngege Beach in Kisumu West for an open community conversation on the health of Lake Victoria including the publicised governmentโ€™s plan to set up a nuclear plant at Luanda Kotieno.

What stood out was clear. People are more concerned than convinced. The plan feels rushed, yet the risks are too heavy to ignore. Our lake is our life. It feeds families, supports livelihoods and connects the entire Nile basin.

Yes, nuclear energy is said to be clean. But even a small mistake can put millions of lives, our water and our future at risk.
We cannot gamble with Lake Victoria when we already have safer energy options like geothermal, wind and solar.
Our voices matter. Our lake matters. Our future matters. State House Kenya

Kenyans must firmly reject the dangerous plan to introduce nuclear power in our country.

Placing a nuclear plant near the Lake Victoria basin is gambling with the lives of millions, our water, our food systems and our environment. One accident would affect not just Kenya, but the entire region.

And for what?
When Kenya is already blessed with geothermal, wind, solar and hydro power that remain underutilized.
We refuse to turn our homeland into the next Chernobyl.
Our future is clean, safe, renewable energy, not radioactive risk!๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ชโœŠ๐Ÿพ

The key question is: are we right in prioritising this project and moving with speed before making sure the people align? Have the voices of our young people been taken into account and mainstreamed in the process? Have those facing displacement in the 1000 acres required; been reached, informed & prepared sufficiently? Has the map been shared? Is there a website providing ALL the requisite information? Where can locals go to get information? How will the waste from the plant be managed when current management of solid waste and liquid effluent is totally wanting? Why the speed when locals do not even understand what nuclear power is? Transparency is a prerequisite in a project of this magnitude!!!
