Good morning everyone,
This week, MARWACODI began a jigger treatment exercise at Mwanjamba Nursery School. We found many children suffering from severe jigger infestations, with some experiencing so much pain that they struggle to walk, sleep, or concentrate in class. In some cases, children even miss school because of the infection.
Jigger infestation is a seasonal challenge in our community. During the rainy season, cases are usually lower, but once the rains stop, the number of infections increases rapidly. Children can become infected not only at home but also while playing or interacting with other children in infested environments, especially when walking barefoot.
Our intervention goes beyond treating the children. We are also identifying the most affected households and will carry out environmental spraying to help break the cycle of infestation. We will revisit these homes after two weeks for another round of spraying and follow up with the treated children after one month to monitor their recovery.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Burger King for supporting this initiative. Your generosity is helping us restore the health, dignity, and hope of vulnerable children in our community. Together, we are giving these children a better chance to learn, grow, and enjoy a healthier future.
Thank you. ,
