HOK joined the Kisumu County International Youth Day (IYD) Planning Meeting at the Nyalenda Young Turks Office, alongside the Kisumu County Youth Sector Working Group and other youth organizations, to help shape a celebration that puts young people at the heart of development.

This year, HOK is proud to lead activities under Climate Action & Green Economy through our Sustainable Livelihood Program and Health & Wellbeing through our Jiboreshe Sports for Wellness Program. Together, we'll inspire greener communities, promote healthy lifestyles, support mental well-being, and improve access to youth-friendly SRHR information and services.

We look forward to celebrating, connecting, and empowering young people as we create lasting impact together. Stay tuned!

Every great future begins with one responsible choice.

Every day, children are faced with decisions that shape their character, influence their relationships and determine the path they take in life. Helping them understand the value of making positive choices today lays the foundation for a brighter tomorrow.

At Kosawo Primary School, learners participated in an interactive session on Making Responsible Choices. Through engaging discussions, they reflected on resisting negative peer pressure, thinking critically before acting and making positive decisions both at school and at home.

By equipping children with practical life skills, we are empowering them to become confident, responsible and resilient individuals who can positively contribute to their communities.

HOK joined fellow practitioners, policymakers, researchers and advocates at the National Conference on the State of Homelessness and Street-Connectedness, convened by Undugu Society of Kenya under the theme "From Dialogue to Action."

The conference provided an important platform to reflect on the realities of homelessness and street-connectedness while exploring practical, rights-based solutions that uphold dignity, inclusion and social justice.

For us at Homeless of Kisumu, the conversations reinforced what we see every day: homelessness is more than a housing challenge, it is a human dignity and development issue that demands collective action. We remain committed to walking alongside individuals experiencing homelessness through psychosocial support, sustainable livelihoods, family strengthening, digital innovation and community-led advocacy.

We thank Undugu Society of Kenya for creating this valuable space for dialogue and collaboration. Together, we can move beyond conversations and build partnerships that create lasting change for street-connected communities across Kenya.

Every living thing matters, and yesterday our young environmental champions discovered why.

At Korando Primary School, members of the Environmental Club explored the importance of biodiversity through an engaging learning session and a fun "Biodiversity Hunt" activity. They discovered how plants, animals, insects and other living organisms support healthy ecosystems, food production, climate regulation and community well-being.

Inspired to take action, the learners committed to planting trees, protecting wildlife, conserving water, and keeping their surroundings clean, demonstrating that protecting biodiversity begins with the choices we make every day.

Nature became the classroom as learners at Kosawo School explored the incredible biodiversity all around them.

During this week's Environmental Club session, learners explored the importance of biodiversity by observing the trees, birds, insects, flowers and other living organisms within their school environment. Through interactive discussions and an outdoor biodiversity observation activity, they discovered how every species contributes to healthy ecosystems, supports livelihoods and strengthens resilient communities.

By the end of the session, learners had turned their new knowledge into a commitment to action. They pledged to care for the plants and animals around them, share what they had learnt with their families and peers, and take an active role in protecting biodiversity in their community.

The best way to protect children is to empower them with the knowledge to make informed choices.

Learners at Kosawo Primary School participated in a child protection session on Crime and Children in Conflict with the Law under the Jiboreshe Sports for Wellness – Legal Aid, Awareness and Sensitization Programme.

Through interactive discussions, learners explored the causes and consequences of crime, the influence of peer pressure, their rights and responsibilities, and where to seek help when faced with difficult situations, including the Child Helpline 116.

As the session came to a close, learners reflected on how informed choices, positive friendships, and seeking help when needed can keep them safe. They left with a better understanding that knowing their rights, understanding their responsibilities, and having the confidence to speak up are essential tools for protecting their future.

We hosted Benson from Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya at HOK, part of our ongoing partnership with GIZ,German International Cooperation to support Persons with Disabilities more meaningfully across our programmes.

Benson walked our team through an assessment of where we stand: our spaces, our processes, our training delivery, and how welcoming they truly are for PWDs. We asked hard questions, took honest notes, and began mapping out the changes that will make inclusion practice, not just policy.

This is what partnership looks like , inviting in the expertise that pushes us to do better.
Grateful to Benson, APDK, and GIZ for walking this journey with us.

Yesterday, we welcomed a team from GIZ,German International Cooperation to HOK Hub to review our progress on the GTA-SME Loop initiative under IYBA SEED Project .

Together, we looked at what's working, what still needs strengthening, and how we sustain inclusive participation across every training, every cohort, every conversation. We shared our achievements, talked honestly about the challenges, and reflected on the lessons shaping how we grow.

Because building an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem means every SEED beneficiary regardless of ability gets a real seat at the table.

Grateful for GIZ's continued partnership as we keep building it, together.

Building healthier workplaces starts with us, HOK will be Join the Staff Wellness Forum as we come together for the second edition following the success of our first gathering and growing interest in staff wellbeing initiatives. This is a collaborative space bringing together organizations, partner institutions, friend groups, and teams to connect, share ideas, and co-create impactful wellness activities that strengthen staff wellbeing and team spirit. Through sports, art, music, and dance, we aim to promote healthier workplaces, stronger bonds, and more motivated teams. Staff wellness is a shared responsibility, when we take care of the people behind the work, we strengthen the work itself. Be part of the conversation, the collaboration, and the movement toward happier, healthier workplaces.
