Why social connection matters for elders
Social connection is a fundamental part of well-being at every stage of life. For elders, it is especially critical.
Social isolation can have a significant impact on both mental and physical health—contributing to increased risks of depression, cognitive decline, and chronic conditions.
In many communities, including across Kenya, changing family structures and limited access to services can make it more difficult for elders to remain socially connected.
This is why community programs, family support, and inclusive care services play a vital role. They help elders stay engaged, maintain a sense of purpose, and continue to participate actively in daily life.
As care providers, our responsibility goes beyond meeting essential needs.
It is about creating environments where every elder feels seen, valued, and connected. AgingWithDignity
