It's high time we took seriously the conversations around peaceful participation in politics as we head toward the 2027 General Elections.
Kisumu may appear calm on the surface, but I sense that something is brewing beneath. The growing phenomenon of goonism is not a good sign. We have already witnessed numerous incidents of violence, some resulting in injuries and loss of life, across the region. We must refuse to go down that path again.
Now is the time for citizens, leaders, civil society, faith-based organizations, schools, Churches, and all stakeholders to intentionally promote dialogue, peace education, tolerance, and responsible political engagement. Elections should be a celebration of democracy, not a season of fear, violence, and destruction.
The peace we build today will determine the future we leave for the next generation.
