GDI strongly condemns the deadly clashes in Muhoroni, which have claimed lives and left others injured. No dispute is worth the loss of human life. Violence only deepens divisions, fuels retaliation and undermines community development.
We urge all parties to pursue dialogue, respect the rule of law and reject revenge. Community leaders, youth, boda boda operators and security agencies must work together to address tensions before they escalate.
Peace cannot take root where violence is allowed to flourish. Lasting peace begins when we choose dialogue over revenge, justice over mob action, and unity over division. Every life lost is a family broken and a community robbed of its future. Let us choose peace before anger turns into tragedy.

On Monday, 21st September 2026, peace actors from Kisumu and Nandi Counties, together with community members and partners, gathered at Kopere in Muhoroni Sub County to mark the International Day of Peace.
Kopere is a unique border area bringing together communities from Kisumu, Nandi and Kericho Counties, making it an important space for strengthening dialogue, peaceful coexistence and community collaboration.
The celebration was held under the theme: “Invest in Peace for Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday.”
Peace is not a one day event. It is a daily investment and a shared responsibility. Let us continue to build bridges, strengthen relationships and invest in peace for everyone, everywhere, every day.

As we approach the 2027 electioneering period, let us remember that the most vital commodity our nation needs is peace. Democracy thrives on the principles of peace, tolerance, inclusion, and respect for the choices and dignity of every citizen. Let us say NO to negative ethnicity, voter bribery, hate speech, violence, and goonism, and embrace peaceful participation, responsible leadership, and coexistence before, during, and after elections.

This is the kind of leadership we need. Leaders who speak firmly against political violence and refuse to use young people as instruments of intimidation. Our politics must be about ideas, development and service to the people, not violence. As young people, we must also refuse to be used to fight battles that are not ours. Let us choose peaceful, issue-based politics and protect our communities. Homabay deserves better, Kenya deserves better.
