COMMUNITY FORUM RECAP | Kisumu, 18 June 2026

Yesterday, Nyalenda Shelter of Hope joined forces with CRIME SI POA Poa at Grace Ogot Social Hall for a powerful community forum focused on building safer and stronger communities.

More than 500 residents engaged directly with representatives from the Judiciary, , the National Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya Prisons Service, secondary school stakeholders, and church leaders to discuss key issues affecting our community.

Topics discussed included:
• Case delays and community safety
• Witness protection and crime reporting
• Rehabilitation and reducing re-offending

The forum provided an opportunity for community members to ask questions, share concerns, and work together with key institutions toward lasting solutions.

Our takeaway is simple: Safer communities are built when we work together.

Today at Nyalenda Shelter of Hope, our Project Manager, Nick Koyoo, took time to explain to our visitors about the corn garden project. He shared how the garden plays an important role in supporting the children under our care by promoting food sustainability and teaching them the value of agriculture and hard work.

Nick Koyoo highlighted how the project not only helps provide nutritious food for the children but also equips them with practical life skills that can shape their future. Our visitors were inspired to see how a simple garden can become a source of hope, learning, and empowerment.

At Nyalenda Shelter of Hope, we believe in creating lasting solutions that transform lives. We are grateful to everyone who continues to support our mission of giving vulnerable children a brighter future.

We thank God that today's feeding program and activities with the street children through Nyalenda Shelter of Hope went very well. It was a beautiful moment filled with joy, laughter, learning, and hope.

The children were able to enjoy a nutritious meal, and we also spent time teaching and encouraging them. They showcased their talents through singing, dancing, and spoken word performances. Seeing them express themselves with confidence and happiness was truly inspiring.

As someone who once lived on the streets for 11 years, today touched my heart deeply. I understand the struggles these children face, and it reminds me why I started Nyalenda Shelter of Hope—to rescue, support, and give hope to our brothers and sisters living on the streets.

A sincere thank you to everyone who supported us through prayers, encouragement, and contributions. I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the members who stood with me, supported me, and helped me throughout this journey. Your kindness, dedication, and generosity are helping us change lives, one child at a time. Together, we can continue to restore dignity, nurture talents, and create a brighter future for these children.

Tomorrow will be a special day for our street children through Nyalenda Shelter of Hope. We shall come together to feed them, teach them, encourage them, and remind them that they are loved and valued.

The children will participate in singing, dancing, and spoken word performances as a way of nurturing and discovering their God-given talents. We believe that every child has a purpose and unique abilities that deserve to be developed and celebrated.

As I look at these children, I remember my own journey. I was once a street boy, and I know firsthand that life on the streets is not easy. I spent 11 years on the streets, facing many challenges and hardships. Those experiences gave me a passion to reach out to others who are walking the same path I once walked.

That is why I started Nyalenda Shelter of Hope—to rescue our brothers and sisters from the streets, restore their dignity, and give them an opportunity for a brighter future. Through feeding programs, education, mentorship, and a safe environment, we are working to transform lives one child at a time.

We thank God for this moment and for the opportunity to serve. We also appreciate everyone who continues to support this mission through prayers, encouragement, and acts of kindness. Together, we can give hope to children who need it most.

At Nyalenda Shelter Of Hope, we conduct street feeding programs because we believe that every child deserves care, dignity, and hope. Many children living on the streets go for long periods without a proper meal, and through this initiative, we are able to provide them with nutritious food in a safe and welcoming environment.
Street feeding is more than just giving food. It is an opportunity to build trust, listen to their stories, pray with them, and show them that they are valued and loved. Through these moments, we encourage them to embrace positive change and connect them with support services, education opportunities, and a place they can call home.
Our goal is not only to address immediate hunger but also to restore hope and create a pathway toward a better future for street children, vulnerable children, and families within our community.
Together, we can bring transformation to the lives of these children—one meal, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time.
