Asembo Skills for Hope

Asembo Skills for Hope Transforming a community by equipping women with skills
We serves as a beacon of hope. Our founders, Grace and Josephine, were born and raised in Asembo.

They were fortunate to come from families that could afford higher education. Grace studied Education at a local college and went onto earn a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Mount Kenya University. Josephine studied Community Development at a polytechnic college. Their higher education gave them the opportunity to pursue careers that provided them economic freedom. However, many of th

eir friends and former classmates were not awarded such options. The prohibitively high cost of college meant that many women from Asembo were left without any visible path to acquiring skills that could allow them to break the generational cycle of poverty. Grace and Josephine founded Asembo Skills for Hope to provide a path forward for their community.

Last week, we opened the gates of the new Asembo Skills for Hope Training Centre.

We opened them for the community for the women and children of Asembo, so that love and hope may come in.
That courage and confidence may come in.
That skills, dedication, willpower, and opportunity may flow freely.

This center belongs to all of us. It stands as a promise that women can learn, grow, and choose who they want to be and nothing less.

We are here for the people and with the people, building together the community we dream of. For our children. For our future.
And it starts with us.
Thank you to the incredible team, board, partners, funders, who made this dream possible.
Thank you Trizah Gakwa BeThatGirl for being the chief guest and your incredible wisdom you shared with us.
Thank you Wangari Ngunjiri Charles J. Odhiambo Muthoni Gakwa for your unwavering support.

It’s that time of the year again — a moment to celebrate resilience, growth, and transformation.

This year, under the theme “From Skills to Strength: Laying the Foundations of Change,” we honor Cohort 5 — a group of determined entrepreneurs who dared to rewrite their stories and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Their journey is proof that when given the right skills, individuals don’t just change their lives — they strengthen entire communities. 💪🏾

🎓 Join us as we celebrate their graduation and mark another major milestone — the launch of our new Asembo Skills Training Centre!

Here’s to new beginnings, new skills, and the unwavering strength of women leading change in Asembo. 🌱

Sharing our small small wins.

New Campus Milestone – Phase 1 Almost Complete! ✨

We’re excited to share that Phase 1 of our new campus is nearly finished!

✅ Two buildings with four training rooms (one doubling as our temporary admin office)
✅ A water tower, sewage system, fencing, and washrooms

This milestone matters deeply. For years, we worked out of a small space that limited how far we could grow. Now, with a true campus that will serve us for decades, we finally have the room to expand programs, welcome more women, and deepen our impact in Asembo.

This is just the beginning—Phase 2 is coming, and with it, even greater opportunities for transformation. 💙

💥 We’ve Surpassed a Life-Changing Income Milestone! 💥

When women join our Skills Academy, we ask them a simple but powerful question: “What is your goal monthly income?”
Over the years, the most common answer has been 10,000 KSH—about $75 USD. That figure became our target, not because we chose it, but because our trainees told us that was the income that would change their lives.

And now… We’ve done it—and gone beyond. 🎉
According to our latest impact survey, graduates from our 2022 cohort are earning an average of 11,800 KSH/month (~$90 USD).

This kind of income means:
✅ Sending children to school
✅ Affording life essentials like food and medicine
✅ Feeling secure and hopeful about the future

This is what transformation looks like—measured in real numbers and real lives.
It didn’t happen overnight. But it is happening. 💪
