Everyday decisions are shaped by systems that are not always easy to see. Yet our experiences, and the knowledge held within our communities, contain information that can help us make those systems more visible.

...we had the pleasure of presenting the DALE framework at Dahdaleh Institute of Global Health at York University.
Our presentation focused on the application of DALE for community led/driven research on global healthcare, specifically bridging the gap between community healthcare needs and global health systems research, policy and intervention design.

Given that the framework was co-created by communities for communities, presenting this for application to global participatory research systems is a major milestone for us!

When you think of the term 'localisation' what comes to mind?

USAID defines localisation as the collective effort by international development actors to shift more power and responsibility to local actors.
But what does this mean for local actors when it comes to context, resources, partnerships but most of all capacity?

What does localisation mean for local development actors?

In 2023, changemakers from across came together to answer this question. The result of that session was the idea of impact systems that adapt to change, allow contextualisation and work first and foremost for these local actors.

In 2024, we therefore ask the question: is agility the first step towards getting local actors ready, if so what then would agile impact look like.

Yesterday 15 development stakeholders representing international development partners, local development actors and government attempted to answer this question by digging even deeper.

Over the next 6 months, we will be figuring out answers to some of these questions and probably asking even more.

And thus the design challenge for 2024 becomes
'How might we design impact systems that adapt to change?

Meet Helida Atieno, a member of Achae Rach Women Group, a group of talented women who are skilled in the indigenous production of clay products like cooking pots, water pots, décor vases, brick making and basket weaving. They are one of the KUZA groups in Karemo Production zone in Siaya County.

They are recipients of $5,000 direct investment facilitated by our partners at the Global Partners for Development, to increase their production of clay products, an income-generating activity that supports their financial independence and empowerment,

...what comes to mind when you think of localizing development?

For us, it means communities taking agency of their own development, working in partneship with development partners to co-create community centric solutions.....for the KUZA groups in our Karemo Production zone, this meant having the honor of becoming the receipients of the first direct investments facilitated by our partners at the Global Partners For Development.
Over the next 12 months, each group will be working on their respective ventures with an input of financing and technical expertise.

We look forward to growing with them, and in the process, rethinking development design.

And our very first edition is titled 'On Sticks and Stones', because resilience and character development are the very first stops on changemaker express.
