Tunza Dada Initiative attended the 2nd Africa Urban Forum. The forum brought together governments, private sector, civil society, and youth to shape Africa’s position on urban development, with a strong focus on “Adequate Housing for All” and how cities can drive socio-economic and environmental transformation.
Key discussions highlighted the role of data, digital innovation, and inclusive planning in addressing urban challenges especially housing, informal settlements, climate resilience, and service delivery in rapidly growing African cities.
A major outcome was the push towards a unified continental position through the Nairobi Declaration, aimed at influencing global urban agendas and ensuring African priorities are reflected.
For Tunza Dada Initiative, the forum reinforced the urgency of using data-driven approaches to make visible the realities of teenage girls and young women in urban spaces particularly around mental health, SRHR, safety, education, and economic inclusion. Without this data, these experiences remain excluded from planning and policy.
The conversations strongly affirmed that inclusive cities cannot be achieved without intentional investment in youth and women-led solutions, aligning directly with our work.
