We were honored to host Plan International Kenya for a partnership and learning visit focused on strengthening collaboration toward creating lasting impact for children, young people,PWDs and communities.

The visit provided an opportunity to share our work, exchange ideas, and explore innovative approaches to advancing youth empowerment, health, education, gender equality, and community development. Through meaningful dialogue, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to building resilient communities where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

At HEDSO, we believe that strong partnerships are the foundation of sustainable change. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Plan International as we continue working together to transform lives and create opportunities for the communities we serve.

HEDSO today participated in the Mental Health Federation Forum Workshop, which brought together mental health organizations and stakeholders to discuss strengthening leadership, coordination, and service delivery within the mental health sector in Kenya. The meeting focused on the mandate of national leadership in mental health, key gaps and challenges affecting access to services, and the importance of expanding community-based interventions through health promotion, harm reduction, and support groups. Discussions also highlighted the role of Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs) under the PBO Act 2013 in safeguarding rights, enhancing legal protection, and promoting accountability and advocacy for people living with mental health conditions.
The workshop further explored expectations from the proposed coalition of mental health organizations, including the need for a credible self-regulation mechanism founded on transparency, accountability, meaningful engagement, and collective action providing a valuable platform to engage with sector stakeholders, share perspectives, strengthen partnerships, and reaffirm commitment to advancing community-centered mental health services and coordinated advocacy efforts aimed at improving mental health outcomes for vulnerable populations in Kenya.

HEDSO was proud to participate in the Pad Drive, Girls' and Young Mothers' Empowerment Day organized by the Great Lakes University of Kisumu Students' Association. The event provided a safe and empowering platform for girls and young mothers to engage in meaningful conversations on healthy relationships, menstrual hygiene, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Access to accurate information and supportive spaces is essential in empowering girls and young women to make informed decisions, protect their health, and pursue their aspirations with confidence. Through such initiatives, we continue to promote dignity, equality, and the well-being of every girl and young mother.

Together, we can build communities where every girl is informed, supported, and empowered to reach her full potential.

Under the TUNU Project, a capacity-strengthening session brought together county teams from Kakamega, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Siaya to develop citizen advocacy tools for following up on identified stalled public projects.

The session focused on equipping participants with practical skills to draft advocacy letters addressed to relevant County Government departments, prepare a memorandum, and develop Access to Information requests to support evidence-based citizen engagement. These tools empower citizens to effectively demand transparency, monitor public resource utilization, and hold duty bearers accountable for project implementation.

By strengthening the capacity of county teams to utilize these advocacy mechanisms, the TUNU Project continues to advance transparency, accountability, and meaningful citizen participation in governance while ensuring that stalled public projects receive the attention and action needed to deliver their intended benefits to communities

Empowering learners to be smart, safe, and responsible in the digital world!

As part of the Bytes of Change Project, we held an engaging Digital Club Mentorship session at St Mary's Nambale Mixed Secondary School, bringing learners together to explore the opportunities and responsibilities that come with being active in today’s digital space.

Through interactive discussions and mentorship, learners were encouraged to strengthen their digital skills, stay alert to online risks, protect themselves online, and use technology as a tool for learning, creativity, connection, and positive change.

Every informed learner is a step closer to a safer digital generation. Together, we are building young digital citizens who can earn, connect, create, and thrive safely online.

Empowering young minds to thrive in the digital age!

Through our Bytes of Change Digital Club Mentorship at Busia Vocational Training Center, we engaged students in meaningful conversations on digital literacy, online safety, responsible technology use, and the opportunities the digital world offers.

By equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate online spaces safely and responsibly, we are nurturing a generation that is informed, innovative, and ready to use technology as a force for positive change in their communities.

Together, we are building a safer, smarter, and more inclusive digital future one young person at a time.

Young people are not just beneficiaries they are leaders, innovators, and changemakers driving healthier and stronger communities.

Our participation in the SHE SOARS Integrated Health Outreach highlighted the power of meaningful youth engagement in promoting health, wellbeing, and social transformation. Through interactive conversations, access to essential services, and safe spaces for learning, adolescents were empowered with knowledge, confidence, and the tools to make informed choices about their health and future.

When young people are equipped with information, supported by accessible services, and encouraged to participate in decision-making, they become catalysts for lasting positive change within their communities.

Investing in youth today is investing in healthier, safer, and more resilient communities tomorrow.
